And I can do the Frug
I can do the Robocop
I can do the Freddie
I cannot do the Smurf
She cannot do the Smurf
And I can watch TV
I can shuffle off to Buffalo
I can do a back bend
I will not call you back
And I can start a book
I can make some Mac 'n Cheese
I can sleep twelve hours
You'll never see my eyes
And I can do the Frug
I can do the Robocop
I can do the Freddie
I cannot do the Smurf
She cannot do the Smurf
And I can hate your girl

The phantom is disguised
It's horrifyin' right before your eyes
The phantom is inside
And I should've known
With a boy like you
Your middle name is always

Up at night night
Like it does me.
We talk the way you do and
I have a sweet or two for
My only plus you say they're
Gettin' bigger everyday
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I
Wonder why it doesn't keep him
Up at night night
Like it does me.
I'll be in your car
I locked the keys in your car
I'll be in your car
For now
You wanna fool around, I ask
I get a sour reply
From the other wheel that always
Rises to the occasion
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I

It's New Year's Eve, I'm in Glendora
I'm the only living person in Glendora
Headin' east on the freeway
I left my prom dress on the busstop in Duarte
I switch the rules, you take advantage
You know I always like to play the victim
And would you fuck me? 'Cause I'd fuck me
Am I your wetnap?
Freestyle walkin'
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I'm on my way, I want to see you
You're in your bedroom with some dancers, I'm beneath you
I come inside, I hear the door slam
You tell me if I really loved you I'd get with them
They make me sick, you make me sicker
But I want to please you so I go and I get with her
I close my eyes, I think about me
I'm just your wetnap
Freestyle walkin'
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I should find someone better for me
But Mom says we're born this way
Everytime I come over to your house
You just shit on my face
And you know it, you know it
You know, you know it really freaks me out
I drove for hours on bad directions
I arrive, there's something you forgot to mention
An afterthought, straight to the tabby
Sorry, Angel, went to Reno, happy happy
It ain't the rest, why do you Jenny
I'm in a booth it's almost twelve, your favorite Denny's
Another year, I need a sundae
I'm just your sidebet
Freestyle walkin'
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again
I cry, cry, cry, then I complain
Come back for more, do it again |

Papillon busted free
Though it took him 'til he was sixty-three
And nobody cared about the Goddamned inquiry
And Daga stayed on the farm
Though he found no cause for alarm
It was a hell of a swim but he still had two good arms
Gorillas are for eating
Don't you know it's true
I fell in love with you
And don't you think it's sad
'Cause here we both stand
Amidst the wreckage of our past
And I'll spend the day with you
We'll meet at your house after two
You're the most exhausting girl I ever knew
And when you let me leave I'll go
I'll let you get back to your phone
You mean well, Mel, but you're all talk and no show
Pick you lips 'til they're bleeding
Don't you know I fell
The lair of the queer devil
Is deeper than you thought
The computer's still on
And the webpage is alt.com
And I hope you'll come back soon
And I feel like a million buck today, a million bucks today
'Cause I know it can only go up from here
'Cause she says it's so much better after all
After all we been through
I can't get my mind off of you
It's a hell of a way to spend the whole day through
And you left your name on the bar
You hopped your little brown car
You moved in with Gramps and you got yourself a job
And the room is slowly sinking
But I can play guitar
And Morgan you're so far
Away from me tonight
And I'll try to make it right
By putting you in this here song
Oh yeah
Okay
Okay wait
Oh my God, Blake
That's what she said
In bed
Papillon busted free
We watched him at 4:53
And I'm glad you chose to spend the night with me |

We were teenagers the first time we met
You were so famous, I couldn't resist
I was your girl then, that's what you said
When you kissed me, kissed me, kissed me
I gave you sweet love, boy, you said it was nice
It was my first time, we did it just twice
Went out for some sodas, when will you return?
But you dissed me, dissed me, dissed me
I went away for reasons disclosed
You broke my heart man, oh you didn't know
But now I'm back to see you again
Did you miss me? miss me? miss me?
We were teenagers the first time we met
You were so famous, I couldn't resist
I was your girl then, that's what you said
When you kissed me, kissed me, kissed me
Oh Davey, why did you leave me
All alone when we went all the way?
But maybe someday Davey
We'll be together for more than a day
I still love you and always will
All those motel rooms, you fronted the bill
I am not bitter, I want you to know
Got yours comin', I've seen it before
So now we're standin' so damn close
You've been in rehab, you think I don't know
I just remind you of yesterday
Places forgotten and friends passed away
But if you want me please won't you say
So I can dis you, dis you, dis you, dis you, dis you
And go away |

You woke up an asshole

And I thought you knew
You woke up my girlfriend
I can't believe my luck
I can't believe my bad luck
And I should've known
You told your friends about me
I'm not as smart as you
And all your stupid questions
I don't laugh at you
And I hope things work out well for you
And I am not comin' back
And you knew all along
And you stole my best line
And you're right
You know I'd go to fucking hell for you
There I go believin' you again
There I go believin' you again |

He fell on his sword
Not two years ago today
And if you haven't noticed
Been waitin' for you to take me away
If nothin' warrants nothin'
I'll galdly give you away
For every goddamned moment
There's something of mine that gets in the way
It's all in the movies I've seen
It's all in the movies I've seen
Lawrence of Arabia
He failed eleven plus
I never went to college
I'm sure it's obvious
I know it's off the subject
And I'm startin' to feel uncomfortable
'Cause when I talk about you
It's just like the movies I've seen
There I go I fucked it up for you I know
I should let you go
That's my reasoning
But there's no reasoning
With a melodramatic fool like me
Aw, fuck it, here's your love song
That you been askin' for
It's the best I could do without
Sayin' I love |

So dear God
I believe in you
Believe in me
and make it come true
and I hope that it happens sometime real soon

yeah i want him very much to die...

All right, thanks a lot
Thanks for coming out

And I thought of the time you said I was your favorite
And that I looked like just like a holiday
Woah, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
I was younger then, barely in high school
When you found me, you took me in
And then one day, you put me on the highway
You said that gravity was gonna do me in
Woah, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee
Oh, gravity-hee

It was an eight-minute ceremony

The bride with diamonds in her hair

We really knew how to have some fun
They're not alive, not one of 'em
Yeah
I sit alone in my room
I'm so damned depressed
I re-enact plays on the polo field
I've never ridden a horse
That's just the trouble with magazines
I get so involved
Recalling my days in North Africa
I've never crossed the Atlantic
Yeah
My parents lived a life less glamorous
Workin' away in Las Vegas
'72 Vista Cruiser
They even lived in it
I'll gladly tell you all about it
I can't remember it
I'll say "Those were the days of the troubadours
They're not comin' back"
We really knew how to have some fun
Before my parents got divorced |

I always heard "An afterthought, straight to the tabby, 'Sorry, Angel, went to Reno, happy happy', it ate the rest..."
Like the tabby cat ate the rest of the note, as it apparently was prone to do, since she went straight to the tabby? |

Um in Glendora the lyric is "you're in your bedroom with some dancers underneath you."
That makes more sense because then the scenario would be, he is in the bed with some dancers and when she comes in a catches him he says "if you really loved me you'd come jump in on this orgy" and although the whole thing makes her sick she does it anyway to please him.
The posted lyric "You're in your bedroom with some dancers, I'm beneath you." makes no sense in the context of the song. _________________ Love me, hate me, say what you want about me. But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy. |

Davey is the actor who played the son on Married with Children... he and Jenny dated back in her child acting days and the song basically tells you how that ended up... |

How do you know this? It's also been rumored that it could have been Dave Foley. (I don't have any idea who it would be, but this is just what people have speculated on this forum.) _________________ I am flawed if I'm not free |

Does anyone know what 85 is about? There's parts that make sense and there are part that dont. Like I'm really confused about the "i'll be in your car" parts.
And i'm assuming the "you wanna fool around" part is in reference to another woman? I guess because of the line "I get a sour reply from the other wheel that always rises to the occasion" _________________ Love me, hate me, say what you want about me. I read it on one of the Rilo Kiley fan sites and various other message boards, and she definitely dated/hung around David Faustino when she was younger. She was in other movies like on Lifetime and stuff so she might have met him at a premier or something. And she used to be into rap and groups like NWA and Faustino had a club that feature that kind of stuff. I'm sure their paths crossed alot.
After doing some more digging, people seem to be in two camps: David Faustino or the fact that it's a pseudonym, because Davey rhymes with "why did you leave me?" I haven't read anything about Dave Foley, though. |

It's weird, because I relate most of that song to situations I've gone through in my life. I think the song is mostly about failed relationships. Like line by line, I could break it down how I see it:
I'm just of real sad folk
And '85 was our best year
And she says it gets much worse
Before it gets any better
[They broke up after a long term relationship, she's sad and remembering the good times, and her sadness is really deep, but a friend is telling her she'll get through it]
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I wonder
Why it doesn't keep her up at night
Like it does me
[She's learning a lesson from the failed relationship, "taking it with a grain of salt", wondering why it doesn't keep the new girlfriend up at night because she knows it was real]
We talk the way you do
And I have a sweet or two
For my only plus you say
They're getting bigger every day
[They talk on his terms, she's getting bigger--possibly because she's pregnant at this time, so her breasts and everything else are getting bigger--and he's kind of disgusted with her]
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I wonder
Why it doesn't keep him up at night
Like it does me
I'll be in your car
I locked the keys in your car
I'll be in your car
For now
[she's locking herself in his car because she's dealing with the pain of the break-up... the car is possibly a metaphor for his new relationship, hence "the other wheel"]
"You want to fool around?" I ask
I get a sour reply
From the other wheel that always
Rises to the occasion
[she wants to feel his affection again, he's with another girl, he's not too keen about it, and neither is the new gf]
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I wonder
Why it doesn't keep you up at night
I'll be in your car
I locked the keys in your car
I'll be in your car
For now
I've been a mess for some time
Now I get what I deserve
For someone who leaves behind
A life I can't do better
[she broke up with him but didn't realize the pain would be so real, and now she feels as if she deserves what she gets, because she left that life behind]
So I take it with a grain of salt
For the other means I wonder
Why it doesn't keep you
Up at night
Up at night
Up at night
Up at night
Like it does me
I hope that makes any of it clearer, haha. |

I pretty much agree with your take on the lyrics.
But the "they're gettin bigger everyday" lyric always made me think that maybe she was referencing her breasts. Like he makes her feel like shit by saying her breasts are her "only plus".
But then the pregnancy look makes sense as well.
This is probably one of my fave RK songs next to We'll Never Sleep (God Knows We'll Try), which gets no love around here. _________________ Love me, hate me, say what you want about me. But all of the boys and all of the girls are begging to if you seek Amy. |

In 85, I'm pretty sure the lyric is:
"We talk the way you do
And I have a sweetheart too"
Could be wrong...but I've tried to hear it the other way and "sweet or two" just doesn't make much sense.
