Post subject: 10 Years of RKnet! (official anniversary/reunion topic) |
|
|
Happy ten year anniversary to our Rilo Kiley online community! This version of the forum at rilokiley.net originally went up May 19, 2003. But what you might not know is that the site has actually been around since December 2002. Back then it had a simple text-only black message board, not the relatively fancy blue forum we're all familiar with.
To commemorate a decade of rknet, I thought I'd start this topic to pay tribute to the old days and members gone by. I'm pretty sure I'm the only person who's still around from those very early days, so I've sort of appointed myself as Site Historian. While I sometimes go stretches without posting much, I've more or less been around since day one. Since then, a lot of cool people have come and gone. For a little fansite such as this to last so long is pretty incredible, when you think about it. There certainly aren't many other unofficial band websites out there that've fostered a thriving community for 10 years and counting.
So this is a thread to pat each other on the back and sing celebratory songs. I'm going to go through the top 100 posters and say some words to toast to them and play "where are they now?" to those that've moved on from this little nook on the web.
This is a really long post. For the full effect, I suggest putting on your favorite RK album to listen to while you read it.
So here are Rilokiley.net's Top 100 Posters, based on total posts in descending order. (Via the Memberlist link)
mojo shivers
- Good old Mojo! He's been among the top 5 active posters probably since soon after he joined back in 2004, and now he reigns atop the list with nearly 9500 posts! He started the "Why are you sad today? (our very own emo thread)" which seems to be 2nd only to the "random thoughts thread" for all-time most popular topic here, with nearly 308,000 views. His long and personal blog posts are a staple of the thread and have connected with lots of fellow board members. His legacy here also includes his recent heroism in bankrolling the effort to collectively win the very rare RK Sandbox Sessions demo tape from '98, for which he ponied up the dough to buy, then shared it with the rest of the forum. I've met up with him at shows a few times back when I lived in Southern California, and he's a nice guy (and very entertaining when drunk!) There was a brief "falling out" with the forum a few years back due to a strange and complicated situation, but besides that, he amazingly pretty much has gotten along swimmingly with everybody for all the years he's been here. Cheers, Mojo!
apexsensation
- Jason! Man, this guy was the top poster for a long time, but suddenly left the forum without so much as a goodbye back in October 2009. He worked the graveyard shift where he usually browsed the forum, though he didn't post everyday. But usually a couple times a week, you'd check the forum and find a dozen or so posts made by him in the night catching up, a phenomenon known as "apexsensation-bombing". Like Mojo, he seemed to get along with everybody. I'm happy to say I'm his friend on Facebook and I can tell you he's still the same old lovable Jason. He got a new job with regular hours working with kids, which I'm sure played a part in not posting here anymore. The board misses you, apexsensation! Keep on rocking.
maxticket
- Wow, maxticket is still the #3 all-time poster at rknet?! Do any of you guys even remember her? She posted a lot back in the day, and still sometimes pops in to post, but not very often since 2008 or so. Quick to call out people on their bullshit, Beth had a reputation of being sassy (some might even say bitchy) and was not afraid to get in a fight if an idiot was trolling the board, though she could also be sweet and sensitive. She has the distinction of being the only member of the forum with whom I've had sex. Seriously. I met her back when she was rknet's plucky sparkplug. Through life's strange way of working out, we developed a long-distance relationship culminating with me moving to Portland to live with her. Happy to say we're still together after more than 5 years. I love you, maxticket! (no, I don't really call her maxticket in person, but that'd be funny.)
IHeartJenny
- Ah, Heather (not to be confused with the current "Heather" [a.k.a heather bee]), but this is Heather from SF. The beating heart of rknet for several years. Well, maybe it was only a couple years, looking at her stats: spring 2005 till spring 2007. Over that span, she was easily the most active poster and made lots of friends here. It's amazing she's still #4 despite only posting once since mid 2007. Like with Jason, I'm happy to say that I'm her Facebook friend, so I've kept in touch with her even though she's long dead to the forum. She was working toward being a kindergarten teacher for a while, but since has veered off into bartending and working as a stage manager for plays in her happening hometown of San Francisco. She's really cool and it's too bad she doesn't post here anymore.
neverending
- The lovely Miss Emily! I think she's second only to myself in tenure (still-active forum members). I think it's safe to say she's the resident "sweetheart" of the forum, and her posts in the perennial members' photos topic always seem to garner much swooning. Never shy to post her triumphs in the "hopeful thoughts" thread, and her challenges in the "why are you sad today" thread, it feels like we've gone through a lot with her and sort of watched her grow up. Oh, and she also helps cement the forum's "international" standing, representing Ontario, Canada. It's been great having you here, neverending! Here's to all the best for you and many more years together with rknet.
bergenergy
- Another still-active member, bergenergy is like the "proud papa" of the board. He may have a few years age difference over the average user here, but that doesn't stop him from connecting with folks from all different walks of life thanks to his genuine interest and curiosity in people. Especially when things are going slowly here, he seems to come up with thought-provoking new topics to breathe a bit of life into the forum. Good to have you here, Dan.
rknet
- Mr. rknet himself! The founder/webmaster of rilokiley.net was once a regular on his own forum, though in recent years, his interest has pulled him toward other pursuits. Still, give the man a lot of credit for keeping this site going for so long, even in the face of a few ugly situations over the years. Kevin is a good guy. He still pops in once in a while to check on his baby, though it's mostly in my hands as far as the day-to-day maintenance of the forum. Again, I keep in touch with him on Facebook. He fell in love and got married, collects pinball machines, and has apparently even done some acting recently! Thanks for everything, Kevin! Here's to another decade of the site.
shelma
- Good old shelma! Sadly, she's only posted sparingly since 2008 or so, but still seems somewhat intertwined with the forum and its history. She was a moderator here for many years. I believe she's currently a writer with the music magazine/site Under The Radar, living a glamourous life in LA.
thegirlinthesong
- Another definite "sweetheart" of the forum. She's been here since 2006 and still stops by from time to time. Like Emily, her magnificent photos in the picture threads always get lots of compliments and it's no surprise that she's had success as a fledgeling actress. I believe she recently moved to Southern California to pursue her dream, and I'm sure I speak for everyone here when I wish her the best of luck and know she can do it.
happyfish
- Rounding out the Top 10, the lovely Carrie joined in May 2007 and is the newest member of the 2500+ Posts Club. She's really nice and has been an integral member of the forum in these past few years, recently even becoming a moderator to help things run smoothly. And she recently got married. Congrats and best of luck! Thanks for being such a great presence at rknet!
Malomakaio
- "Bad Matthew" is another frequent poster we "lost" in 2009. Apparently he lives in my neighborhood, though I haven't run into him (I might recognize him if I saw him, but hard to say). He was sometimes a really cool, nice guy.
Built To Post
- Chuck is another fixture of the forum's past several years. Often among the first to offer encouraging words, he's a real stand-up guy and we were all happy to be along for the ride (through his open and personal posts) as he fell in love and got married not too long ago. Here's to ya, Built To Post! Long may you post.
Heather
- Yay, Heather. Formerly known as "heather bee", she's been a big part of the forum since joining back in May 2005. Her smarts and firm yet level-headedness made her an easy pick for a moderator. Her posting has curtailed in recent months, but hopefully she'll be back in full-force soon. Thanks for everything, Heather!
Gav
- Hey, that's me! As I've already said, I've been around here forever. I had a "competing" Rilo Kiley fansite back in the day (unknowingly beating rilokiley.net online by just a few days), and instead of spreading/splitting the online fan community over 2 forums, I essentially conceded to Kevin and joined forces with him here, and I've been a mod (now admin) since this version of the forum went up back in May 2003. My site Rilo Kiley Place is still up, though I don't do much with it these days.. pretty much just leave it up as a resource. Not to toot my own horn, but over the years I've served the forum by posting some entertaining topics, uploading lots of live/rare Rilo stuff, and just generally done my best to keep things running smoothly here.
death kiley postal
- Korinna was the youngest regular on the forum back in the "glory days" until leaving us around late 2008. I'm still friends with her on Facebook and I'm happy to say she turned from a cool kid to a cool young adult. She's in college and has done some great things such as traveling abroad to help people and being active in the democratic process. We miss you here, death kiley postal!
mattloaf1
- Matt was a genuinely cool dude. Too bad he doesn't post here much anymore. Not sure what he's up to these days, but I'm sure he's gettin' it done, as it were.
bello_misterioso
- Bello! This is actually the first of 2 usernames of his we'll come to on this list. He apparently had trouble logging in at some point so he created a new account as bello_returns and posts from there now. But anyone who was here back in September 2007 when bello_misterioso first appeared no doubt remembers him as the infamous user who rustled a fair amount of feathers with his in-your-face attitude and opinions about Rilo Kiley and other topics. For a while, it seemed like a new topic could not be created without bello soon posting in it and somehow getting into a dustup. If nothing else, he kept the forum interesting during a time when the band was slowing down. Thankfully, his obnoxiousness (for lack of a better word; confrontationalness?) wained after a while and he became less of a troll and more of a valued member of the forum. I briefly met him in person once and he was real nice. Thanks for being here, bello!
honeyfromthetombs
- He's a cool guy who's posted lots of interesting stuff over the years. One of the few openly gay regulars the forum has had over the years, his openness apparently lead to him receiving a nasty PM once, which was an ugly mark on the site's history. But we were collectively able to get past that and he still posts here from time to time, though it's been a while. He's a talented writer. We miss you, man!
waking in winter
- Oh man. Another blast from the past who was a huge part of the forum back in the day but I doubt anybody remembers much now. She didn't pull any punches and wouldn't hesitate to put a troll in his or her place. She stopped posting in October 2007 and hasn't been heard from much since. I used to be friends with her on a small Whispertown fan forum after she left rknet. It was nice to get to know her better. That small online community consisted of 25 or so regulars, most of whom were castoffs from rknet, and everyone liked her a lot. But sadly she sort of retreated from her online friends and wouldn't have anything to do with us anymore. It was weird. Not sure what happened. I tried to add her on Facebook and she blocked me. So yeah, I'm not sure what she's up to these days but I miss her and wish her the best.
nach heart
- Jen is super cool and rounds out the Top 20 here on the list. Great artist and great person. Bummer she doesn't post here anymore. Not since early '08, wow. She's engaged to her long-time boyfriend who's also a former rknet regular, Oh It's Max!
southboundpachyderm
- This guy used to post a lot of smart and interesting things. In yet another instance of rknet romance, he dated shelma for a long time. I was lucky enough to meet up with them in person at shows 2 or 3 times. It's funny how they both sort of stopped posting here much once they broke up. Too bad.
thewolvesareaway
- Rilo Kiley's premiere scenster! He was always in on the latest gossip and knew where the cool secret shows/parties were happening. He could accurately tell you who the hot new bands were before anybody else had even heard of them. Hasn't posted here much in recent years, unfortunately.
catie
- Catie is awesome. From 2005 through 2007, she was easily one of the most prolific and highly regarded posters here. After she stopped coming here, I kept in tough through that aforementioned Whispertown forum and got to know her better. She's super smart and ended up going to Yale. RKnet misses you, Catie!
hopefulthoughts
- Another shooting star of the forum, active from mid 2005 through mid 2008. Sorry to see she hasn't been around in so long. She was cool. I haven't kept in touch with her at all, so I've got no idea what she's up to these days. Probably kicking ass, though!
lostunipine
- Ah, the "kid sister" of the forum. She was sweet, though going through some teenage growing pains in front of us all. She had some family drama, and once her evil stepmother found out about her rknet account and read the personal details she shared here, she left the forum never to return. Apparently things are going well for her these days, attending Kent State and engaged.
Rilokileyfan21
- Similar to Bello, Rilokileyfan21 is a bit infamous here for stirring up unpleasantness when she joined back in mid 2007. I think the thing was she simply posted so much in a short period of time that she got on people's nerves. She eventually learned to tone it down and not reply to every-freaking-thing, and developed into a valuable member of the community. She has since gotten married and had a child, so she's not around as much these days.
robot
- Robot was a pretty cool guy. Hasn't really be a regular poster since 2007, but still pops in from time to time.
chimpforaday
- She was a welcome fixture here for a long time, though not around much in recent years. Too bad; she's really cool. Lives in Brooklyn now.
binky1984
- Another nice person who posted a lot during the site's busiest period, around 2005 through 2007, but not a lot since. I think she also got married.
Kelley
- Rounding out the top 30, Kelley still stops by, but not much in recent years. Good person. Miss her posts.
nyeacknjny
- Nick is definitely in the running for the title of Biggest Rilo Kiley Fan of All-Time. He's probably seen them (and the Elected) live more times than anybody in the world (at least of people who don't live in the LA area), dating back to 2001. He's been a pillar of the rknet community for a long time and hopefully will continue be for years to come.
Fluid Floyd the Aquanoid
- This guy was only a member here for about a year and a half (Sept '07 thru May '09), yet makes the list at #32 all-time rknetter. That's a lot of posts in a short time, but he was so cool and friendly that it was ok. Sadly he changed jobs and didn't have all the downtime at work to sit post on the forum, so he just abruptly left a shark-sized hole in our hearts (that's a reference to his avatar). Not sure what he's up to these days.
PortionsForScott
- Another guy who posted a lot around 2004 till 2008. He was cool. Miss him. Wonder what he's up to now.
Vegan
- Oh wow, I doubt anybody else even remembers Vegan (maybe Emily?), but he was the top poster for a long time despite really only being active in board's first year of existence. He was one of the original moderators here. He hasn't been by at all since 2005, sad to say. I met up with Greg at a show once (RK at the Glass House 1/9/04; what a legendary show that was!) and he was super nice. I'm not exactly sure why he left the forum, but it's my understanding that it might be another casualty of a failed real-life relationship with another person who happened to be a rknet member. I guess even "online hangouts" can carry painful memories.
letsfeelinfinite
- She was cool. Only 1 post since 2008. That's too bad. I never got to know her that well and don't know what she's up to nowadays.
anotherclumsychord
- Kinda surprised to see this guy so high up on the list. Active for a couple years around '06 and '07, he was cool most of the time. I know he was somewhat of an aspiring musician in Ireland. Wonder if that ever went anywhere for him.
v- rinny
- Ah, v-rinny. She's still around. She seems nice. Thanks for being here!
skateboarder873
- This guy was cool. Not sure what he's up to now.
F#minor
- Wow, look at F#minor way down at #39 on the list! If this list only covered activity over the past 3 or 4 years, I'm sure he'd be in the top 5. If the forum lasts another decade, I wouldn't be surprised to see him up there in the all-time top 5 before long. He's a good guy. Thanks, man!
queen c
- Another lost forum regular, active from 2003 through 2007. Bummer she left. Not sure where she is now.
tw2113
- This guy was an interesting kid. He still seems to pop up once in a while.
rocknrolldied
- I remember enjoying reading his posts. Looks like he didn't like Under The Blacklight and that's when he stopped coming here, which is understandable. I wonder if when the rarities album comes out (and/or maybe even a future RK new album, in the slim chance one ever materializes) if it'll be able to bring back some of these old members to the forum who stopped following the band because they didn't care for direction they went with UTB.
thenewcharming
- This guy was pretty cool. Too bad he hasn't posted in a year.
cityclass
- She was cool, and also hasn't posted in about a year. (Sorry a lot of these are now just "this person was cool; too bad they don't post anymore" but we're getting into the people who were great while they were here, but I simply don't have any personal anecdotes to share about them.) Oh, she's another Canadian on the board.
evildelia
- She was pretty nice.
DainGoding
- Oh, I remember this guy. He was a good guy, though perhaps a bit over the top with his Jenny worship at times.
imok
- He hasn't posted here since 2004 yet still makes the list at #47 all-time-- Wow! That should let you know that he was a very active poster back in the site's early days. Not sure why he left. I'm friends with him on Facebook. He's doing ok, and I believe works in his folk's bike shop in the LA area.
monique
- Sorry to say I don't have much of an impression of her other than she was a nice forum member who posted a lot around early '05 till mid '07.
TheOtherOne420
- Finally, here's another still-active rknetter! He's a good guy, from what I can tell. Thanks for being here, man!
diminished_self
- Here we are at the halfway point of #50. Active around Sept 2004 through May 2007 when he took an inauspicious exit after an unfortunate incident with a member named cat-chaz, who was a well-meaning, but shockingly disagreeable troll who haunted this forum for a time in mid 2007 until he was banished. In hindsight, an argument could be made that this forum jumped the shark when cat-chaz joined. He kinda managed to kill the "happy family" vibe here. Shortly thereafter, Under the Blacklight was released, and a lot of the older fans didn't like it and lost interest in the band/site and a new group of fans discovered the band and joined us. And there were other ugly moments concerning members that I've already mentioned above (There was also the whole "L" thing, which maybe I'll touch on later). Yeah, all that stuff seemed to go down around mid 2007 and I'm sure it's no coincidence that that's about the time a lot of the cool people who used to post in the old days stopped coming by. That's not to say the forum has been crap since then, just not the same. I'd be interested to hear from other people who've been here prior to 2007 if they agree or not. But I digress. diminished_self was a pretty cool guy most of the time and it's too bad he left.
FourMee2PoopOn
- She's cool. Met up with her at shows a couple times. Still an occasional post in 2011, but nothing recently.
thegetaway
- She seemed nice. Hasn't posted since early '09, sadly. Hope she'd doing good these days.
moople72
- He's a good guy. Still posts occasionally, often with amusing results in the "I'm Drunk" thread. haha
hobochick
- Ah, I remember her. I used to be her MySpace friend back in the day. Not sure what she's up to now. She had some big issues to deal with in her life, but she always seemed cool to me.
SPT
- One of the few non-North American regulars, representing the UK. Still posts sometimes. Good guy.
jonesinforvagtown
- Another good guy. Still posts occasionally, usually in regards to the Elected.
bassclari109
- Jack is a friendly guy. Too bad he doesn't post much anymore. Last time I touched base with him he was doing well.
ohvelveteen
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice. Posted a lot for essentially only 1 year here (fall '05 to fall '06).
HeallateR
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice. (Hey, you can't expect me to have something to say for all 100 people on this list! It's nothing personal against them.)
LindaV
- Another of the few "original rknetters" on this list. She posted a lot in the early days, and a bit throughout the end of the decade, but hasn't been by in a few years, sadly. I hope things are good with her.
Guera
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
CarlottA_ValdeZ
- Another regular from the early days who has since disappeared.
I am Bones
- This guy was pretty interesting. Hope he posts again at some point.
PerfectLoneliness
- She seemed sweet.
HarvesterOhearts
- I thought she was cool.
paramour
- Pretty cool forum member.
hyphen812
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
Kacy
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
shadespatterson
- She was cool.
frylock
- He was cool.
terrance2874
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
SuckYoungBlood
- Oh, this guy! Yeah, he was a neat kid.
warpaint
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
delftwaves
- Oh geez. She was a sweet young girl who posted a lot of heartfelt stuff, but she had a shocking secret, and once the whispers started, she vanished into the night as if she had never existed at all.
lostandfound24
- #75 on our list. I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
Trevie
- This was a young kid who posted a lot during a short period. Seemed nice enough.
thisisnotanexit
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
FlyingCamel
Becca! She's a rock star now. Ok, maybe not a "star" yet but she's having some success opening for known acts in Florida and she's appeared on a Joanna Newsom tribute CD along with the likes of M Ward. I miss the crazy silliness she brought to the forum in its prime.
rocksolidgurl
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
dachiickme
- She was cool. I miss her.
DriftwoodProse
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
Nobody Loves You
- Gracie is another person who was just a kid when they joined and it's weird that she's a real adult now. She's also one of my favorite musicians. Wallofus is the name she records under. Awesome stuff.
Humiliation
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
dragonfly
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
BadNewsMama
- Oh man, I've got some history with her-- the less said about that, the better. But all in all, she's great and it's too bad she doesn't post much these days. I hope things are going well with her.
niesen
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
merf
- She's cool. Miss her.
bello_returns
- See the previous entry for bello_misterioso above. If you combined the post total of both his accounts, bello would overtake me for 14th place on the all-time list.
spumpkinscm
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
amycutthroat
- Oh, I remember her. Another sassy broad (in a good way). I was friends with her back on MySpace and we talked some back when both of us were going through some shitty times. She soon found a good man and settled down and things got a lot better for her. I assume she's still doing great.
jennyinthegraveyard
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
delia
- I'll never forget that time she said, "Fear is the final gift I give to those I destroy." Nah, I totally just made that up. She never really said that (that I can remember, at least). But in all honesty, I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
on my own
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice. (Gosh, 3 people in a row I don't really have a strong impression of. I feel bad. Sorry, guys.)
ZooeyLewis
- Oh, ZooeyLewis. She's the only member of the Top 100 who joined in 2010 or later. Wow. That's a lot of posts in the last couple years alone. But she's recently cooled off a lot after stepping in some drama surrounding Jenny Lewis herself! Scandalous! I think she also had a stalker who followed her here, which is probably another reason she stopped posting. But yeah, she's a cool chick. I hope she returns sometime.
jadedgypsy
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
wanderlust
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
magentaconflict
- Oh, I remember her. I think I was MySpace friends with her. She was cool.
Jennifer
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice.
cocajustin
- I don't remember this person much, but they were probably nice. (Actually, I think I remember this guy starting some fights, so maybe he wasn't that nice after all. But I could be wrong.)
pennielane
- Oh, pennielane. Just cracking the Top 100, she was a sweetie from the site's very early days, active from spring 2004 to spring 2006. I miss her too.
Okay, there you have it! The Top 100 RKnet members based on total posts. I'm tempted to keep going for another 100, as there are a lot of notable members who didn't quite make the top 100 (nikoline [the Norwegian contingent of rknet!], raindv [the RK bootlegging king!], Ann Nonimus [Morgan's mom!], mike [another original mod], Danny Youre Barely Alive, kbonovox, Zane, Syd, and the list goes on and on.)
Oh, and ok, special mention to L who was like the "mom" of the forum for several years until she had an ugly falling out with Kevin a few years back. Too bad things turned out like that. Not that I'm taking sides in that spat (L and myself had a bit of a falling out a year or two after that, and I haven't talked to her in a long time), but as a mod and frequent poster back in the site's heyday, she definitely was a strong presence here and helped shape the forum for the better back in the day, so no recapping of the site's history would be complete without giving her a shoutout.
So now that I've said my long, rambling piece that I wrote over the better part of a day, what are YOUR thoughts on the forum? Who are your favorite members (who may or may not have been mentioned above)? Most memorable moments? Best topics? Please post them here! Or simply wish the site a happy birthday, if you like. Maybe some long-lost old-school members will pop in thanks to me mentioning them here? That'd be cool, but hopefully I didn't say anything to upset anybody.. I just wanted to be honest and frank about the site's history. I would love if any of these people would pop in and say hi, maybe tell us what they've been up to lately.
Anyways, as I said earlier, thriving fansites such as this are a rare breed these days, and it's pretty incredible that this place has lasted 10 long years! Even though this place is understandably not as busy as it was back when the band was active, it's still a pretty cool place. It still picks up when something big happens in the Rilo Kiley universe, such as when Bury Me In My Rings was announced last year out of the blue, or when the Sandbox Sessions demo tape was made available thanks in large part to the members of this forum coming together as a team. A lot of lasting friendships have been started here over the years. It's a pretty neat place. So yeah, congrats to all our 7000+ registered users, past and present! Long live rilokiley.net and long live the music of Rilo Kiley!!
Your pal through it all,

Awww! What a trip down memory lane! Congrats to this site on ten years. That is pretty awesome.
Reading this topic made me miss a lot of people. The forum was a lot more active even when I joined in 2007. I always thought L was sweet- it was sad what happened there (that was right around the time I joined). Gav, you need to tell maxticket to start posting again. She was always amusing. So many people I miss. Lostunipine was such a sweetheart - I can't believe she's all grown up now, and getting married!? Would be great to hear from her again. Happy to hear about nach heart and oh, it's max - I remember them vaguely from back in the olden days. It was always interesting reading delftwaves posts too...what kind of shocking secret?!
Thanks for taking the time to do this Gav, great topic! Here's to ten more years. _________________ happiness is not a fish that you can catch. |

Wow...10 years. Congrats to the board and its great members. Reading through that brought up a ton of memories, good and a few bad. Great stuff, Gav! _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

aw, reading the peoples names made me miss a lot of people. I used to message imok A LOT back in the day and then things went a little weird...to be honest.
i miss lost unipine a lot too, i thought she was great.
much love to mojo of course, one of my go to guys when I need advice or to vent.
paramours great and I banter with her back and forth on twitter.
I remember meeting up with PortionForScott at the Toronto show years back. I knew he was looking at colleges up here and in New York (I think he was from new york?)
I remember much of the drama with L -- I think that's when I stepped back for a bit, didn't post as much I dont think.
It's weird, I was thinking about it the other day and I feel like I did grow up with this board. I've been posting here for so long, and I just remember posting here on big moments of my life (i.e. breaking up with my highschool boyfriend of 4+ years, getting accepted to college, graduating college, moving to Toronto..)
I miss a lot of these people, but Im still glad we have a great group of people still. Have a bunch of people on facebook and twitter (feel free to add me, heres my twitter: https://twitter.com/emiiilyt )
I'd love to post more, but I have people coming over...but maybe i'll post more later _________________ "oh no! jabba is going to choose jenny lewis for his wife. R2D2 will destroy him!"

Thanks, guys.
I think the forum has an option to send out a mass email to all users, and I'm thinking it might be nice to send something out to give everyone a heads up about the big milestone. And perhaps this topic should have a survey with it to make it a bit more interactive for the "reunion" aspect, especially for the folks who haven't been around in forever. Fun, right?!
Copy and paste and answer, if ya like!

BAM! Way to go Gav Best rknet event in forever.
It's odd for me to still be here since nothing Jenny/Blake-ish has gotten me to excited after More Adventurous - but oh so excited up through then. So yeah, it's obviously the people here and my stupid need to say things that I wouldn't bother to say on any other forum. It's rknet or nothing for me.
I'll do the survey next week because I'm about to leave on a trip to Tahoe.
But I do want to throw out some quick memories of former boardies.
Went to a couple of shows with iheartjenny since we were the main SF fans. She definitely was a tornado of ideas and opinions. Great singer.
I guess it's best to say as little as possible about WakingInWinter. Very, very strong and thoughtful person.
catie was no doubt the smartest, but also so sweet and outgoing - a ray of light
wolvesareaway and I met at my first rk show when I drove all night to San Diego to see them - he was so well connected with music and I got his concert updates for years
I wrote a little with lostunipine - she was pushing through some young adult issues and seemed on her way to getting balance. Great musician and passionate mind.
robot was the other SFer and I met him a couple of times - he was probably the most cynically funny member on the board, but turned out to be a serious artist.
Kelley I didn't know well, but I remember she was a music journalist and had the best information
letsfeelinfinite you knew was an ethereal and sublime person - made everyone feel better
cityclass was around until fairly recently - so honest and fun loving. We bonded over Okkervil River love.
ohveleveteen and I wrote quite a bit for a while. Every now and then when I am searching my gmail using a keyword one of her messages pops up and I have fun rereading it. She lived fully engaged and was ahead of the game.
flying camel was by far the nuttiest and most spontaneously funny person here - EVER. So glad to hear the music is going to well because that is what she was serious about.
haha, for some reason I wrote to jennifer and found out that she was probably the lone Republican on the board. I appreciated her willingness to keep an open mind in staying on here.
GAV - about the best Mod a board could hope for. Best resource on all things RK and most genial of souls. My heart skipped a beat when I learned about his soulmate being in Portland because he seemed to be such a perfect potential partner for a smart, funny and loving girl.
hmmm, didn't I once start a 'Let's get Gav a date' thread?

Name: Chuck
Age: A very immature 43.
Location: Howell, NJ.
Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: A tie. The first time I listened to The Execution Of All Things. I immediately called 3 friends and told them to get the album immediately. I listened to it over and over and over.
The second is an odd personal memory, but it was when my brother and I were having a serious conversation while various tunes played on shuffle in the background. The Good That Won't Come Out came on, and my brother started laughing his ass off and said, "Did she just say they were talking shit about pets?". He was enjoying his version so much that I simply said 'yes', instead of correcting what he heard. I smile every time I hear the song.
Favorite RKnet members: Toughest question to answer by far as there is not a single current member that I don't like. I'm a big fan of neverending, bergenergy, TheOtherOne420, Happyfish, rknet, Gav, Mojo, and many others. An old member that I miss is Mattloaf. He turned me on to The Long Winters. Every time I listen to the album, When I Pretend To Fall, I think of that fucker.
Favorite TV shows: Louie, Homeland, Dexter, Sunny, Boardwalk Empire, Parks & Rec, 30 Rock, Spartacus, Breaking Bad, Eastdown & Down, Curb Your Enthusiasm, South Park, Portlandia, Shameless, Eagleheart.
Best movie you've seen lately: Nothing new, and not the first time I've watched it, but I saw The Good The Bad & The Ugly a couple of weeks ago. Such a classic western.
Best book you've read lately: I'm currently, and finally, reading for the first time, 'The Art Of War' by Sun Tzu.
What do you do for work?: I'm an international sales manager for a company that distributes transformer cores and makes magnetic assemblies. The products may not be that exciting, but I work with great people and love my job for the most part.
What do you do for fun?: Sports, music, movies & tv, spending time with my stepsons.
How's your romantic life lately?: Great. In August I married a woman who is sweet, driven, adorable in so many ways, and always surprises me. I'm a lucky man.
What websites do you visit most?: Besides things like FB, twitter, sports message boards and stuff...one that I think many here may like is http://theinterrobang.com.
Do you have a blofacebook.com/g/Tumbler/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?: I'm ChuckD528 on FB, Twitter, and Instagram.
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: Pay off my house, pay off my brother's house, put money into savings for my stepsons' college funds, help out friends in need, some charities, etc.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?:
Something I need to do myself, but....post more. There is such a great collection of people and personalities on this board that have more in common than just the love of Rilo Kiley. Just because they aren't together any longer, doesn't mean we shouldn't be. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Thank you, Gav, for doing this. I have loved this place since before I registered in 2005 (right after my first RK show). I was a lurker for a few months before that. I have always felt that the community here was stronger than the drama that came and went, and I'm happy that we still get the occasional new member. Who do I miss? Annapants, Frylock, Robot (especially his signature) and all of the LIAD crew (I registered over there but never posted), and most likely more I can't remember. I do have a story to tell:
After the first time I saw RK (at the Grand Ballroom in SF in 2005) someone here posted mp3's of the show, which I listened to fairly obsessively and noticed that after Blake sort of dedicated a song to (among others) Emily, there was this female voice from the audience "Who's Emily?" A year later, in the question and answer thread, I got Heather (IheartJenny) to admit "That may have been me..." As I recall she claimed to only be distraught because she wanted Blake and Jenny to get back together.
Also, when I was in acute rehab after my stroke, my speech pathologist found out that I was jonesing for the internet after two months without it, and she got me a half hour online (thanks Vanna!) after which she asked: "So what did you do, check your email?" I told her nope, I posted on the Rilo Kiley board. "What's Rilo Kiley?" So I told her. _________________ Rise up children, life goes on and on

Very cool idea, Gav. Even now this is one of the four or five places I manage to check everyday even though it's died down a lot. I still have a lot of good memories here.
Name: mojo shivers (seriously 70% of the people I know call me that, not just here... the other 30% call me Patrick)
Age: 37 (or 11 as three people celebrated on my birthday this year)
Location: San Pedro, CA
Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: Oh the many concerts. Though I got a late start compared to some of the members here, not really going to a Rilo Kiley show till like 2003 I basically tried to hit every show in Southern California since then. Following them to see a show in Boston was a good adventure, The Mayan and Glass House shows of 2004 I remember a lot, and, of course, getting buzzed/drunk/whatever at a lot of those shows was always nice.
Favorite RKnet members: This list is going to be horribly long. From the beginning of my time here till now these have been my favorite members on here:
neverending (of course), thegirlinthesong, letsfeelinfinite, delftwaves, carly, peeptoes, nancy drew, Gav, F#minor, BadNewsMama, bello, Zooeylewis, shelma, Cara B, happyfish, TheOtherOne420, chimpforaday, thewolvesareaway, Built to Post, bergenergy, and probably many others that I've lost track over the years.
Favorite TV shows: Now? I have almost thirty shows I DVR, but my favorite favorites are Parks & Rec, Dexter, Game of Thrones, Happy Endings, and Big Bang Theory.
But anyone who knows me knows my favorite show will always be Avonlea. Always. Forever.
Best movie you've seen lately: Silver Linings Playbook, Moonrise Kingdom, and I'm assuming Les Miserables are my top 3 movies this year.
Best book you've read lately: I only read genre books these days so Cold Days, Live Wire, Hit & Run, The Name of the Wind, and The Wise Man's Fear
What do you do for work?: I work for Toyota these days in the Master Data Management department.
What do you do for fun?: The same five things I always do--reading, writing, eating, watching, and traveling.
How's your romantic life lately?: Interesting, looking better than it did four months ago.
What websites do you visit most?: Besides e-mail, twitter, and facebook? Probably Boardgamegeek, meetup.com, and my (now defunct) blog.
Do you have a blog/Tumbler/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?: They're all under mojo shivers or mojoshivers
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: Spend it traveling probably... and watching Red Sox games at Fenway.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?: Nope, I think I'm good. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

She kinda did. Her husband is a film maker (just made a film about Highland Hospital in Oakland called "The Waiting Room") and I met him once when he visited her at work. She introduced me as "The guy who turned me on to Rilo Kiley and Neko Case" so I think maybe both of them? _________________ Rise up children, life goes on and on

This is fantastic, Gav. I know I've been in and out of being MIA on here lately, but it's stuff like this that keeps me coming back.
It's insane to think I've been posting here since just after I turned 17, and now I'm rounding the corner to 24! You guys were really my first internet friends, and even though it's slowed down around here I still keep in touch with some elsewhere, not to mention that it kind of paved the way for some other insanely good internet friends I've made in the last year.
Name: Shannon (though I often go by Shanleigh on the internet these days, simply because I'm very good friends with another Shannon and she was around first)
Age: 23
Location: Los Angeles -- moved here about two months ago from Chicagoland
Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: I actually have only ever been to one concert, because I became an RK fan right after they finished touring for MA and therefore was only around in time for the UTB tour. It was amazing, though, even though I went in like the first month of freshman year of college, by myself, because I ended up making friends in line that I stood with at the show and who volunteered to drive me an HOUR from Philly back to Allentown so I could stay for the whole show (I would have had to leave early because of the bus)
Favorite RKnet members: Oh man...I mean, neverending and I talk pretty much every day, and same with F#minor (especially if Words with Friends counts). I don't talk to mojo or ZooeyLewis quite as much as that but they're certainly around as well. You'll notice those are the forum members I'm connected with on Twitter, haha, so you can see where my energy's been getting to. The people that I really only talk to on here include bergenergy, Built to Post, catie, the Heathers, happyfish...and Gav is gaining some real ground with this topic
Favorite TV shows: THERE'S a can of opinion worms for you. Community, Doctor Who, Parks and Rec, Cougar Town, The Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars, Suits, Dexter, New Girl, Don't Trust the B in Apartment 23, Grey's Anatomy, Arrow, Awkward, Happy Endings, Game of Thrones, Mad Men, Suburgatory...and those are just the shows that haven't been cancelled.
Best movie you've seen lately: Since moving to LA I've seen Argo, Skyfall, and Silver Linings Playbook, all of which were quite good. Oh and I finally saw Brave the other night, which was AWESOME.
Best book you've read lately: I actually haven't read a new book in a while now, but I've been on a Pride and Prejudice kick lately.
What do you do for work?: Mostly I'm unemployed. I saved up a lot of money in the year before my move so I could have a grace period after I moved to LA and not have to take the first restaurant job to come along. I babysit when I can, I've just started working for a company that provides characters for kids' birthday parties (I play Cinderella), and I'm gonna worry about getting more regular weekday work in January, since I'm going to be at my parents' for two weeks over the holidays and shortly after that I'm going to Hawaii for a week so I can't really commit to anything right now.
What do you do for fun?: Watch television, read, and share my many feelings over things I am watching and/or reading. I also like to write, cook, go thrifting, and a lot of other things that require more money than I have. Oh and act and sing. Sorry, it took me a minute to remember to include those since they're what I studied in college and want to do for a career, so I don't think of them as, like, hobbies.
How's your romantic life lately?: Strange, but that's par for the course. I tend to casually date for short periods of time, which for the last few years was because I didn't want to get into anything serious before moving away. I always have dumb and weird romantic/sexual drama going on that I swear I don't mean to happen. I've been dating someone new for about two weeks now and he's a good guy but I doubt it's going to work out. Also I develop crushes on inappropriate older men, it's fine.
What websites do you visit most?: I always have Twitter open. Always. Besides the other social networking and related sites (Facebook, LJ, Tumblr, Pinterest, YouTube), I also hang out around Television Without Pity, TVTropes, and various fanfiction sites.
Do you have a blog/Tumbler/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?: I always mean to keep a regular blog but never seem to be very good about it. I don't do much on Tumblr. I do a LOT on Twitter but I really don't recommend following me on there because I tend to vomit a lot of feelings about television at all hours. And the link to my Facebook should still be in my sig!
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: For one thing I'd stop worrying about finding a job here! Really, that's probably it. I'd use it to pay for my living expenses while auditioning and stuff here in LA. I could do things like join a gym and buy dressers for my bedroom.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?: When you put my username inside colons like for emoticons, you get _________________ Change has a way of just walking up and punching me in the face.

So glad to see this topic be well-received! You guys are great.

Well, unfortunately my efforts to send out a mass email have resulted in only error messages, so I don't think that's gonna happen. So I'm gonna need to call on all you current members to help us get the word out about the anniversary/reunion. If you're still in touch with anybody who used to post here, you should drop them a message and suggest they stop in and say hi. Chances are some people remember/miss them and it'd be great to catch up!
Here's the message I tried unsuccessfully to send out:

Ten years of Rilo Kiley.net!
Did you know rilokiley.net is celebrating its 10 year anniversary? It's true! You may not have checked in recently (honestly, it's mostly been slow for the past few years), but just sending this email out to all our members to give everybody a heads up (Don't worry, this is just a one-time thing; we probably won't send out another mass email for another decade). Please feel free to pop in and say hello to your fellow RK fans. What have you been up to lately? We have sort of an "anniversary/reunion/reminiscing" topic going at http://www.rilokiley.net/viewtopic.php?t=14429 ..Feel free to login again for old time's sake and wish the site a happy birthday.. maybe reconnect with some old RK buddies you used to know!
Thanks!

Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: Seeing them play at the Glass House that one time when Jenny sang Blake's songs and vice versa. I was in high school so it had to be before June 05. I can't remember if it was that show or another show at the GH when Jenny asked me to come on stage and sing but i balked so my friend katy went instead and got to slow dance with some strange boy in front of everyone. I've loved RK since i was 13 so they are quite intertwined with many of my memories.
Favorite RKnet members: I'm not as involved here as many. Probably Comatosedheart because she is my friend in real life. (we met at the 'myspace secret show in 05'.) and F#minor because he told me to come back and fill this out.
Favorite TV shows: The IT Crowd, Doctor Who
Best movie you've seen lately: i liked Argo, Lincoln
Best book you've read lately: anything by Philip K Dick
What do you do for work?: I work at USC doing breast cancer research. Not the lab stuff but the social sciencey aspect.

Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: when i arrived for a show at webster hall, was about to make my way up the stairs and jason was pounding on a door, locked out and smiled at me. haha seeing RK two nights in a row, the confetti during the under the blacklight tour(which now and forever whenever i see a piece of confetti fall at that venue i think of RK and weep), having to beg my mom to let me see my first RK show alone with a friend in NYC, just overall being really connected to RK in my teenage years and having more adventurous to lean on. best blake memory: him wearing the hat i gave him for a tour oh and getting a myspace comment/message from him back in the day it meant a lot to me, still does

Why do I feel like I've been the cast member of a long-running reality show right now? And what a coinkidink that the phrase "jump the shark" was used. Thanks for the entry Gav, I enjoyed reading it, in fact it made me laugh, especially my mention in RiloKileyFan21's entry, that one literally made me laugh out loud.
Name: Michael Edwards (bello_misterioso came from this phase I went thru when I was obsessed with the mafia and took up Italian. That didn't last long and now I roll my eyes at it.)
Age: 24
Location: San Diego, CA
Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: Probably going to see Rilo Kiley and knowing that even if I went alone, there would be people there from the forum for me to hang with and be just as excited with me rather than taking a friend who wasnt a big fan. I have never and still haven't seen a band with such a tight-knit community and its pretty awesome. I remember having just as much fun standing in line as I did watching the actual show. RK is the first and only band I like where I have a nice handful of people who love them just as much as I
Favorite RKnet members: I can't really pick a favorite but there a few that I have met and/or know fairly personally and those people are F#Minor, Gav, ZooeyLewis, Mojo, Bad News Mama and another girl named Ashley who's username I've forgotten. She didn't post much. I have seen RK or Jenny with all of these people and it was always so much fun so they are probably my "favorites". And Gav sold me that disc with all of the EP tracks on it which I still have and play to this day. As far as just online personas, I do miss Oh, Its Max (that guy was a dick lol) and apexsensation. And I could be mistaken but binky1984 always seemed to make me laugh, if I remember correctly she had a very dry and sarcastic sense of humor and I think we argued a few times hahaha. Maybe that was maxticket? Whatever, it was everyone at one point hahaha.
Favorite TV shows: Sons of Anarchy, Judge Judy, Grimm, Roseanne, Frontline, UFO Files, Deadliest Catch, Charmed,
Best movie you've seen lately: I just recently watched Wonderland and it was a great movie.
Best book you've read lately: I'm in the middle of The Witching Hour by Anne Rice. Not a new book but its pretty interesting. I really wish I had more time to read, I used to be a huge bookworm.
What do you do for work?: I am a massage therapist by day and I am an electronic music artist by night.
What do you do for fun?: On a normal day, I will be listening to music for a large portion of the day. Most of the day actually.
How's your romantic life lately?: It doesn't exist. I really believe I'm not meant to be in a relationship like that, I can't see myself as part of a unit. But I do respect and admire people who work hard to keep their relationships.
What websites do you visit most?: Aside from FB, I'm on YouTube alot. I also am a Wikipedia addict although I do not use Wikipedia as my final point of reference. I surf the Internet alot and do research on random shit. I am curious person so I'll wonder something totally random like "hmmmm, I wonder what the political state of Slovakia is like?" and I will just google it read tons of articles and essays. Its dumb I know, but I just have this weird urge to know everything about everything.
Do you have a blog/Tumbler/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?:
You can add me on Facebook. Barbi Crash is my musician name but its my personal account. The name is an ode to Darby Crash from The Germs.
facebook.com/barbicrashmusic
or Twitter which I just made
twitter.com/barbicrash
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?:
Its horrible but I'm very materialistic so I would probably buy lots of "things". I'd of course invest it in my music and pay off my debts. Depending on how much I got, I might donate some of it to something.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?:
You already know I do hahaha. I have about 5 websites I visit on a near daily basis and this is one of them even recently. I don't post much anymore but I lurk alot. I appreciate everyone taking all the punches I threw because none of it was ever malicious, just passionate. I only remember being overtly mean once and that was to lostunipine and I apologize to her wherever she is. Also, funny story, just before cat-chaz was banished, he sent me a PM (I was a new member at the time). I cant get it anymore because I cant get into my account but the tone of it seemed to be a passing the torch type of thing. I had no intention of being the next least liked member but I just think its funny how he reached out to me specifically. I'm actually not this argumentative in real life but music is my passion and since that is what we come here to discuss, that's the mode I'm in when I'm here. I'm just glad everything is still cool around here. The beauty of discussion is that you can disagree and even become upset but still come back around to have another. So I'm glad no one around here seems to have been personally affronted by anything I've said. You know the real reason I don't argue as much around here? Its because I smoke weed now. I just don't see the point in fighting with people when you'll never change their mind, I just want peace and harmony. I grew up. So if you ever read one of my posts and are doubtful about the tone, just remember, bello loves you.

Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: I saw RK a few years ago on their UtB tour, which was cool. But I've been lucky enough to chat with Jason and Blake after some of their other shows!
Favorite RKnet members: ah, this is tough!! Jason (apexsensation) and bergenergy (Dan). Gav, emily (neverending), and happyfish always had wonderful posts too!
Favorite TV shows: lately I've been hooked on How I Met Your Mother, but Breaking Bad is definitely a favorite.
Best movie you've seen lately: I'm not really a movie person, but I went to see Perks of Being a Wallflower and it blew my mind. It's my favorite book
Best book you've read lately: I've found it hard to find time to read in school, actually... but i really liked Cat's Cradle by Vonnegut. and Perks, of course is always a favorite
What do you do for work?: I'm in school at Kent State, studying sociology and international relations majors and italian minor. Not really sure my direction, but I'm hoping to work or live in Italy at some point. And I have still been working at my summer camp!
What do you do for fun?: I've made some really great friends at school, so a lot of hanging out. I've been knitting lately in my free time too.
How's your romantic life lately?: As Gav said before, I'm engaged! He's wonderful. I haven't seen him since late March and don't get to for a couple more months, since he's currently in Afghanistan.
What websites do you visit most?: Facebook, Twitter, Postsecret, and Wanelo
Do you have a blog/Tumbler/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?: my twitter name is capturingclouds
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: Hm... Well lately I've been working with a non-profit for suicide prevention and awareness for depression, addiction and self-harm. It's called To Write Love on Her Arms, it's fairly well know, but I think I'd definitely donate money there, and save most of the rest for the future. But only after I buy at least 6 pairs of new shoes.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?:
Well, thanks everyone for listening to my rants a couple years ago. hahahah. I was really going through a lot and looking for people to listen. So thanks a lot to Jason and Dan for really listening and writing letter with me! Rileykileyfan21 (natalie) was also a great person to talk to, so thank you. Gav, I'm pretty sure i have your Perfect Day recording for Fibreroctopus. How's your music going?
My family issues are mostly resolved, but things are still a little tense sometimes. I worked through my depression (though still have those bad days now and then) and am working to help others as well!
I've checked the boards now and then, cause I've been curious about everything and everyone, but wasn't really sure if it was my time or place to post. Thanks Gav for making this! And way to go, RKnet for 10 years! _________________ -Leanne :] |

(no, I don't really call her maxticket in person, but that'd be funny.) |
Woah...how did I not know this? I've seen you post pics with her on FB, but I never had a clue that was Beth. She's awesome. Definitely one of the best posters the board has ever had. Plus I was able to get tons of music since she sent me an Oink (r.i.p.) invite way back when. Glad things are going great between you two! _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: seeing them in Lawrence, KS in May 2005, the day before I joined the forum
Favorite RKnet members: Sam (honeyfromthetombs) is really the only one I got to know much outside of RKnet, Gav and Beth, Dan. Oh, and my sister posted a few times.
Favorite TV shows: Peep Show, QI, Mad Men, Dexter, Fresh Meat
Best movie you've seen lately: I honestly don't remember the last movie I saw, and that frightens me
Best book you've read lately: The Knot by Mark Watson and Moranthology by Caitlin Moran
What do you do for work?: librarian
What do you do for fun?: reading, watching TV and standup comedy shows, hanging around online, reading a shitload of atheist blogs
How's your romantic life lately?: hahahahahahahahahaha
What websites do you visit most?: Tumblr and freethoughtblogs.com
Do you have a blog/Tumblr/Facebook/Twitter/etc you want to share?: heatburg on Facebook and Twitter--you won't find much there, but feel free to add me if you want
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: a friend and I have plans to move to London and become full-time comedy groupies if either of us ever comes into any money
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?: RKnet was a great internet home for me for a few years and I still love it and y'all even if I'm not here much at all anymore. And yes, I miss RK like hell and wish they'd put out that damn rarities album already.
Edited to add:
Favorite bands/artists these days: If anyone asked, I'd probably still say RK was my favorite band, but in terms of what I listen to the most... I'm into comedy more than anything else these days, so whenever I'm listening to music it's most often Tim Minchin or Garfunkel and Oates.

Hi! I made the list--I did not expect to. I never posted too, too much, but I loved this site so much and I still stop by to see if RK will surprise me and reunite. F#minor told me to stop by, and I wanted to make sure I posted before the day was out! I'll read more thoroughly later, but I'm out drinking delicious, delicious cocktails with my boyfriend (and discussing bands we have loved passionately since high school--reminding me to post here!)
You guys are so terrific, and I love loving Blake, Jenny, Duke, and Jason with the finest fan community around. _________________ What a fun, sexy time for you! |

Miss Meg! I wasn't sure you were going to come back for this. Honestly, I almost forgot I met you on here, Miss-46-posts, because the furthest back I can remember we talked on AIM, then Facebook, but never here. And even then for some reason in my jumbled up head I had it in my head we met before I ever joined this forum.
It feels like there are records of us together from back in the 70's--the 1870's, where we used tin cans and string to access the internet. LOL _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Great to hear from everybody! Hope the blasts from the past keep coming!
My regrets on the survey: misspelling "Tumblr" and forgetting the question "Who are your favorite bands/artists these days?" This is a music-focused forum, so how could I leave out current music likes? Gah. Sorry. Feel free to add that question.
Name: Gavin
Age: almost 35.. geez
Location: Portland, OR
Favorite Rilo Kiley memory: I was lucky to see them live a few times. I bought my Execution CD directly from Jenny as she worked the merch table back in 2002. The 1/9/2004 Glass House show was lots of fun. A couple great shows at Epicentre in SD. A random cool RK memory is playing the great SNES game Earthbound (happyfish knows what I'm talking about) while getting into Takeoffs for the first time. That video game and album are kinda linked for me.
Favorite RKnet members: I probably gave enough shoutouts in the first post.
Favorite TV shows: There's a bunch, but on top are 30 Rock and Always Sunny. All-time is still Simpsons and MST3K.
Favorite movie you've seen lately: Hmm. Nothing jumps out. I guess watching thru Carl Sagan's old Cosmos PBS series on Netflix, if that counts.
Favorite book you've read lately: I don't read as much as I should. Currently working on On The Road.
Favorite bands/artists these days: All-time is probably Neutral Milk Hotel and Jane's Addiction, with Rilo Kiley and Frank Black/Pixies close behind.
What do you do for work?: I left my class-action claims analyst job a few months ago, and have been in "funemployment" mode for a while now.. keeping busy by selling shit online (eBay, CL, Listia).. but should really start looking for a new real job soon.
What do you do for fun?: I had a really awesome dog named Lucy Patilda Lou, but she died a couple months ago. Super bummer. Hanging out with her was a big source of fun for me.. hiking, etc. But otherwise, hmm.. Wii, Netflix, music, and it's dorky but I've gotten back into collecting baseball cards somewhat (scored a couple vintage Mickey Mantle cards this year! dorkout!). And sampling the quality beers crafted by brewers of this fine city and beyond.
How's your romantic life lately?: Real good. As I mentioned in the 1st post, been with Beth for a while now. She's my rock, etc. Love her a bunch.
What website(s) do you visit most?: FB, Listia (dumb auction site where I get baseball cards and stuff), what.cd (nice Oink replacement), and I mindlessly click RKnet more than I need to, even still.
Do you have a blog/Tumblr/Facebook or anything you want to share?: I'm defgav on FB and a few other things.. feel free to add me. Or/plus as lostunipine graciously mentioned, I'm a (very) amateur musician, still occasionally putting out music under the name Fiberoctopus. If you want to forever be in my good graces, just like/follow me at https://www.facebook.com/fiberoctopus or http://twitter.com/fiberoctopus and check out my sloppy/heartfelt tunes at http://fiberoctopus.com/
If you came into a bunch of money, what would you do with it?: Probably just keep on doing what I do now, but without the looming threat of running out of money. Maybe donate some to zero population growth and environmental organizations, though at this point it seems like a lost cause.
Anything else you want to say to anybody/everybody here?: Again, I think I said more than enough in the first post! But yeah, love all you guys. This forum has meant a lot to me over these past 10 years. Good times. I hope everybody who reads this will post in this topic, hopefully getting more long-lost old-timers to pop out of the woodwork. _________________ Rilo Kiley Place - nice |
