2011 season is history. Who the hell even remembers the World Series winner at this point?
Phillies sign Thome for their bench/some time at 1B until Howard comes back, as well as getting Papelbon today. I would have preferred keeping Madson, but I can't complain too much.
Marlins making serious offers to both Reyes and Pujols apparently.

The optimist in me is holding out hope that the Giants can re-sign Beltran. The realist in me just plain knows someone else is going to swoop in and offer way too much for way too many years (looking in your direction Boston). Not saying we can't win it all with the lineup we have (we barely missed the playoffs without Posey, Freddy Sanchez, and a couple months of the Panda), but it sure would be nice to have another solid bat in there.
On a somewhat Phillies related note, it's looking like Pat Burrell is hanging it up after a fine career. He may have only played with us near the end, but he'll always be a Giants legend for the role he played in getting us to the playoffs. Tip of the cap to a great hitter.

Long shot here, but one of my owners dropped out of my 12-team keeper league if anyone's looking for a new league or even if somebody is just looking to try out fantasy baseball for the first time.
It's a fun league--lots of smack talk just bordering on threats of bodily harm--and really competitive. It's probably the most competitive league I've ever been in. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

How strange has this first week been?
Giants and Phils meet in a battle of struggling teams next week.
It's strange when both the Yanks and Red Sox both start 0-3. I'm just glad we got our first win yesterday. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Got out to the yard for the first time this season. My undefeated record at Giants/Rockies games was shattered as Colorado rolled us up 17-8. Two different 7 run innings (one by each team), 3:43 minutes long, with about a two minute rain shower (that sent the pusses in my section scurrying for safety). Hate to lose, but I got to see a bunch of players I had really wanted to see (Belt, Pill, Posey, Pagan, Melky). Scored a great ticket in the club level outside the park for cheap too. Good times.
That must have been a wild and weird game to watch. I guess once they are down by so many you can stop worrying about winning and just enjoy the crazyness of it. _________________ Under cherry flowers none are strangers

Nonsense, I had the rally cap in full effect in the 8th and 9th down 9 runs. Never say die. It was flippin crazy though. I think the craziest thing was seeing Brandon Crawford go yard. He might put up Duane Kuiper HR numbers for his career, so I know I witnessed a real rarity.

Red Sox had a great game this morning. 8 runs in the 8th? That's awesome. I'll even take Beckett getting only one K for the day if it means a win.
Hopefully this is a sign of things to come. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Ellsbury going down for the next 6-8 week really jobs up one of my fantasy teams.
Thankfully, that's the one position player I don't have on my fantasy team from Boston. Pedroia, Youk, Agon, and Ortiz? Yes. Ellsbury? No.
It still sucks from a fan perspective, but at least it won't screw my fantasy play as well. LOL _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Actually, the last 2 days have been great for me aside from the Ellsbury news. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I just saw the Miami Marlins home run celebration sculpture go off for the first time today. What the hell is that thing? And who's bright idea was it to make it this festive and bright? LOL It looks and sounds like it's stolen from a Mardi Gras or Carnivale party. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I don't want to shit on Humber's great game yesterday, but that last pitch was a check swing and ball four.
And Mojo, for your sake I hope you weren't watching the Sox game yesterday. That was brutal. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

I have to watch. I'm not somebody that doesn't watch their team when they're in a slump. If I thought that way I wouldn't have watched the Sox before 2004 when we were in the middle of the mother of all slumps.
It was brutal, though. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Oh no, I was watching the whole way through. Well, I watched until the sixth inning when they were up 9-0. Then I had to drive somewhere and by the time I got there it was 9-8. Then the wheels, the dashboard, and the engine just completely came off the bus.... _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Didn't get to see it, but I had Humber in my lineup for my AL fantasy baseball team. I've had a real knack for having guys that throw no no's and perfect games over the years, especially guys you don't expect it from (Anibal Sanchez was one of my favorites, Yahoo actually strongly recommended getting rid of that guy right before he tossed his no hitter).
Giants starting to right the ship a bit after a slow start. Fuck those Dodgers though, no way that lasts.

No way the Dodgers are that good. They're good, but not that good. That's the kind of start you get when half of your games were against San Diego. I want to see how they fare when they go up against some tougher competition. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I was just perusing my fantasy teams, and I gotta say, Mike Aviles is absolutely destroying it for me so far. Nice pickup by the Bo Sox. I've had him before when he was on KC, and the guy can hit. Put at the top of a potent lineup, I think this guy is primed for a monster year (with SS eligibility no less).
And just when I think the Giants are getting on a roll, they get smoked by Cincy. Just one game, but it looked ugly in the box score. Not even a game that Zito pitched either (who, to be completely fair, is having a real nice start to the season).

I made a mistake in not picking up Aviles when I had the chance. However, the way my league works is we're allowed to keep three position players and three players from our chosen team. I not only have Pedroia, Youk, and Agon, but I also picked up Big Papi in the draft. I thought to pick Aviles as a free agent would be mistake. One good opposing pitcher or, heaven forbid, a rainout and I'd lose half my batting points.
In hindsight I should have just rolled the dice since Aviles was out there for days and days with no takers. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Yeah, I've been caught in the same trap. A team gets dominated by a good pitcher and your team is sunk for the day. One of my leagues is a head to head league where a bad day can murder you in the matchup and the standings.

I can't complain, though. Red Sox's bats are finally waking up. If we can just get our pitchers to wake up a bit more I think we'll be in good shape even with Ellsbury, Bailey, and Crawford out. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."
