I dunno, that's a pretty big IF right there. The lineup is still very solid, but both the rotation and bullpen have major issues (I am currently riding the Aceves rollercoaster chasing saves). I know you guys are used to an annual playoff run at this point, but this really seems like a transitional year. I was just talking to a friend of mine that is a huge Yankees fan about how essential it is to have excellent starting pitching in the playoffs (and I cited the Rangers run with a great lineup and decent but not great pitching as an example of how hitting can only take you so far). |

I haven't given up on Beckett, Lester, and Bucholz. They're all too good of pitchers to be doing this bad. I've got to believe they turn it on even more in the coming weeks. The only ones I'm not sure about are the end of the rotation in Bard and Doubront.
As for the bullpen, I agree, we need to do something. We've had far too many wins slip away and too many close wins because of the inefficiency of the back end pitchers. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I was talking to a Marlins fan the other day who is still pissed about the Beckett/Lowell trade to you guys. Even getting Hanley Ramirez and Anibal the Cannibal Sanchez wasn't enough in his opinion, especially watching those guys make an instant and huge impact in Boston.
I hear ya on Beckett and Lester, those guys should be able to right the ship. I've never been big on Bucholz, but that's more of a gut feeling than his actual on field results (which have been pretty good). With Pineda out for the year, you guys look to be in better shape than the Yanks rotation-wise, so there is always that. |

I just picked up Mike Trout. I know the Angels record and offensive capabilities are down right now, but I'm hoping his record in the minors means this will be the shot in the arm they need to produce around him. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

| I'm hearing rumblings that the Red Sox are going to call up Aaron Cook and put him into their bullpen. Is this really what it's come to in Boston? From watching this guy the last few years in Colorado, you might as well have your bullpen coach go out on the mound. Guy throws BP, walks a ton, and is very prone to the long ball when that sinker don't sink (which is often). Eesh. Tough times in the AL East in the pitching department eh? |

Not to mention we let our top tier closer go and now he's thriving in his new home. Meanwhile, we pretty much pray every night that our bullpen holds it together for just a few more outs. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I don't mean to pick on the Sox. I'm just a little surly with Jacoby and Youk sitting on my DL right now. Not happy with those picks at all. Oh well. |

Luckily I picked up Encarnacion off the waiver when I saw Youk was starting the year out slow. Why that guy wasn't drafted is behind me. He's never been a superstar, but that guy has always has 20-25 home run power.
I'm also really liking the Braves right now. I'm confident they can take the NL East, though I have no idea how good the Phils will be when they get all their studs back. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I'm glad to see Rivera go down. It's about time.
I don't how you die from a torn ACL, but it'd be awesome if he was the first baseball player to claim that honor. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Ah, I love it, that's some righteous hate right there.
Continuing my theme of shit ass injuries to each of my squads, I had Rivera. He was the first and only closer I went after in the draft (I'm really good at scooping up closers afterwards as the closer jobs shuffle around).
The Panda going down in SF was devastating though. Silver lining is that it's still early, but damn, he broke the same bone in the other hand last year. Reeks of the punishment from someone selling their soul to win the series in 2010. Just sayin'. |

Yeah, I don't know about the Giants. Ever since they won their championship it's been one thing or another that sets them back almost every month. It might be a curse like you said.
Oh, and you should have heard me when Lidle crashed his plane in '06. I was saying the whole team should have been on the plane. I despise the Yankees and am not shy about wholeheartedly believing they should all die. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

That's old school, I like it. In this society, where everyone gets a trophy for participation, there isn't enough genuine hate and disdain for rivals. At a young age I already knew that I would hate the Dodgers for my entire life, and pass down that hate to future generations of my family. I feel bad for teams without natural rivals. It's like that with the Rockies. Their fans are so goofy happy go lucky with opposing fans because they aren't indoctrinated to hate any specific team (although the Giants are creeping up that list as we take over Coors field whenever SF is in town). |

Yeah, it's like that for the Angels. I mean--there's a crosstown rivalry with the Dodgers, but it's not a natural rivalry since they are not in the same division. Hell, they're not even in the same league. That's why I guess I could never get behind the "local" team since they're too friendly with everyone. Not to mention I hate Angels fans. There's been a couple of games that have been tied after nine innings and 50% of the crowd still chooses to leave, or, worse yet, you get the 20-25% who just leaves in the 7th to beat the traffic out of the parking lot or because they've got work or class the next day.
It's a baseball game, folks. There shouldn't be anywhere else you want to be. Hell, I pray for extra innings because it means being able to stay that much longer watching live the game I love... even if it means doing it in a ball park that serves fruit cups and pitas like the Angels do. LOL
I mean--I've been to games at Fenway where the Red Sox are down four to five runs in the ninth inning and 95% of the fans are still watching the game. Not only that but Red Sox fans are standing for the whole ninth inning--sometimes even as early as the eighth inning--willing their beloved team to come back or, if the Sawx are winning, close it out. No one is watching their watches to see when they can leave. It doesn't even occur to them that they can leave. Why would they want to?
That's why I dislike Angels fans for the most part. Los Angeles as a whole has some of the most bandwagonner, facetious fans when it comes to any sport. They'd rather be seen at a game or check-in at a game than actually see it. You stay for the whole game--win or lose, come midnight or even morning--especially if your claim that that's the team you're rooting for. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Two amazing moments from Sunday:
Orioles and Red Sox both have position players pitching. The Orioles DH goes 0 for 8 with 5 strikeouts but pitches two scoreless innings at Fenway for the win.
Rookie phenom Bryce Harper gets beaned by Hamels on first pitch and then freakin' steals home - wow!
I'm thinking Hamels admitted trying to hit him because his ego didn't want people to think that he through a pitch that bad. _________________ Under cherry flowers none are strangers |

I have been watching nothing but baseball when I get home from work since April. Today I watched the first game of the NHL Finals.
It was a good change of pace.
Now what are the baseball scores? LOL _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

What's the story with the young OF Boston recently called up? I had to add him to my team due to the staggering number of injuries I've had (7 guys on the DL as of today). Looks like he's doing pretty well so far. I need it as my AL team has been stuck in a rut.
I might try to get out to see a game in the Rockies/A's series next week. It's a midweek interleague deal and if I can go or not really depends on work, but I'd really love to see Bartolo Colon pitch. |

Don't even mention Middlebrooks. LOL I have a persistent a-hole in my league who picked him up about the same time I picked up Trout. Now for the last three weeks I get constant pep talks about how Middlebrooks is a better investment since A) I have the Red Sox as my keeper team, where we're allowed to keep 3 offensive players and 3 pitchers from your team and B) He's a 3rd Basemen, whereas Trout is a dime-a-dozen Outfielder.
I mean--Middlebrooks is awesome and I like we've got him, but Trout is a superstar in the making and nothing short of an A-list talent is going to pry him from my dead hands. We get to keep 2 "Away" offensive players and 2 "Away" pitchers and you can bet your ass Trout is going to be one of my slots. LOL
I'm finally going to my first game this month. Angels and Giants. I have to wait all the way to August before the Red Sox come to Anaheim, and I usually see my first game way before then. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Tough division. I think the Nats are for real if Strasburgh holds up. Only being 6 out after losing 6 in a row could be a lot worse. Sucked the way the Dodgers came back each game, though. Oh, I just looked again and saw that home record -
From a Giants perspective, we're winning games, but still with minimal offense. For a couple games we scored more runs off hitting into bases loaded double plays than by actual RBIs. With the starters routinely going until the 8th, people here are feeling the mojo right now (and praying for Lincecum to find his way back). Hard to know how long Zito can keep things up. |

Saw Matt Cain perfect game from beginning to end. Couldn't have happened to a more deserving guy.
Definitely the most exciting game I have seen short of the World Series. |

There have been so many perfect games in recent years that it's not so amazing to me any longer. 6 in the last 8 years, should have been 7 with the Gallaraga debacle.
Cain is a beast though. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

First of all for 36 scoreless innings and counting
Then there are the Melk Men (for Melky Cabrera)
Now joined by Melk Maids
And people are having a hella (yeah I said it) good time.
Not to mention the many funny other moments between the team and fans. Led mainly by this man
