Did anyone watch? Was there, perhaps, a Jenny and Johnny song in it?

They played "My Pet Snakes" and J&J had about 45 seconds of screen time. Still, super weird. I didn't know about it and was just watching the premiere because GG is a semi-guilty pleasure. When I saw them I flipped out though.

hmm....so they were like a band playing in the background of a scene or had actual lines?

Maybe someone will put it up on YouTube.

It looks like they had lines. I didn't see it, but I did see these screen caps on tumblr.

This gives me a chance to talk about The Wizard/Jenny's acting.

Not too long ago I came across a YouTube video from 2008 where they streamed The Wizard at the Alamo Drafthouse and did a Q&A. The director said he wanted to put out a special edition DVD with extras. Fred Savage and Jimmy aka California was there, too. I'm guessing this hasn't worked out since the only DVD I have ever seen is a barebones Full Screen version.

Is anyone a big enough fan to know more info on this?
I would sign any petition, etc. Laughing

I came across this Power Glove video the other day and it cracked me up:

Gossip Girl is such a laughably bad show. The only good thing about it is Kristen Bell is the narrator. But for some reason, they're able to get the coolest musicians to cameo. Sonic Youth was on there as well.

Has she ever said why part of Elliott is in color and part is black and white on the Figure 8 cover? Look at his hand.

Funny you should bring this up because I JUST bought The Wizard on DVD a couple days ago and it is indeed bare bones but I think its widescreen (I haven't watched it yet). I actually prefer fullscreen. The black bars of widescreen really annoy me. Also, since its my favorite movie I've done lots of research on it (there's more than you would think) and apparently the petition, as far as I know, was to get the movie released on DVD, not a specific special edition. I doubt we'll get special edition anytime soon since not only was the movie not very big but most of the actors in it are now either obsolete or forgotten (even Fred & Christian sadly). I also own Troop Beverly Hills on DVD and that is also a bare bones release. I dont think it'll happen.

Interestingly, I read an interview with the director Todd Holland online a long time ago and I vaguely remember him saying there ARE deleted scenes and that there was some sort of featurette made during production. I also remember at some point reading that Fred Savage was a total dick and Jenny and Luke Edwards both did not get along with him which I found very interesting. He also mentioned Rilo Kiley and said that he was very surprised that Jenny was in a popular band and he enjoyed their music.

One question I have and I KNOW I've posed this question before. Maybe mojo can answer because I know he's also a huge actress Jenny fan: The Wizard and Troop were both released in 1989 but Jenny looks considerably older in The Wizard. They also, I believe, were released within a few months of each other (late 1989). I know The Wizard was released in December 89. I assumed that Troop Beverly Hills may have been filmed a couple years earlier and then shelved but I have never seen this confirmed. I dunno, its not a big deal but I always think about it when I watch either film. :/

Ok wow, I don't mean to go WAY off topic here but after I replied to bigideas about The Wizard, I went on imdb to try and see if I could find the link to the Tom Holland interview. Didn't find it. What I DID find though is that the guy who played Lucas (Power Glove guy), who was credited as Jackie Vinson is actually a child molestor and a registered sex offender. I mean WOW. I guess he didn't take Fred's advice about keeping his Power Gloves off people! I guess he wasn't lying when he said the Power Glove was sooooo bad. Laughing Ok let me stop before it gets any cheesier.

Well, for one thing, Troop Beverly Hills was released March 1989 and The Wizard, indeed, was released December 1989. What I remember is Jenny said in an interview that Troop Beverly Hills was filmed mid-1988 while The Wizard was filmed somewhere in early 1989 to mid-1989.

Completely off topic here, but this is crazy talk. You do realize that you are missing out on part of the shot with a fullscreen version right? It's basically a rectangle cropped and zoomed to fit on a square. I'll only watch a fullscreen version of something as a last resort, as it's a bastardized version of what the film maker intended to show.

Yeah, yeah, yeah I know the difference between widescreen and fullscreen but again, the black bars drive me nuts. I feel like I'm watching something with blinders on. Its a trade-off. You either want the full shot with those annoying black bars or you want part of the shot without them. I prefer part of the shot without them. Its not like you're missing important elements of the movie. If I have to sacrifice part of the shot to get rid of those bars, then so be it. Its just my preference. I feel the same way about Blu-Ray's. I have a PS3 so I have Blu-Ray capabilities but honestly, I do not care that much about picture quality. In fact, when it comes to older movies, I PREFER lesser quality pictures and I think its because I'm a fan of b-films. For example, one of my favorite movies is Halloween. I own it on VHS and remastered widescreen DVD. I prefer the VHS. Why? Because the grainy film and less bright colors for ME adds to the rawness of the film. Dressing it up and making it crisp just kinda defeats the purpose to me.

Now on the other hand, with movies that have alot of special effects and CGI, I prefer the best picture quality. Movies like Toy Story 3 or Avatar I'd probably buy the Blu-Ray. But with movies like The Wizard, I couldn't care less and I DEFINITELY don't care about widescreen with ANY film. I guess I'm crazy. Crazy

Mojo, I knew you were the one who could answer my question!

Why don't you get a widescreen TV so that you can see both the entire picture as it was intended and not have to look at any so-called black bars?

Well of course that'd be the solution. But right now, I guess I don't care enough to shell out money for a new TV while I'm in college when I already have one, that's fairly big, and works just fine. I guess I was just referring to if I had the choice. Eventually, I'll invest in a widescreen tv, but for now its textbooks. :/

Well it's a completely different shot. I guess if you don't care about cinematography at all, then it's not important. The director frames the shot that way for a reason. If he felt the sides of the image were unimportant, he wouldn't film the scene that way.

I don't mean to harp on you (well maybe I do), but I'm just surprised to hear you espouse this view. As far as you being crazy, hey, you said it not me. Smile
