Wow, that is a crazy lot of name changing going on in your family, Dan. I would never change my last name--I really love it for various reasons associated with my family, the nationality it invokes, being relatively common and easy to pronounce without being Smith or Johnson or something of that ilk, as well as the fact that there is a novelist (though not necessarily one of my favorites) with the same last name--although I do like how you and your wife combined your last names, Dan. I've always thought that was cool.

I would probably change my first and middle names if I thought I could get away with it without people thinking I was a total weirdo (evidence: Matt/Shawn/Geoff story above). I've always thought both my first and middle names were way too girly for my personality, and also, being born in the mid-1970s, roughly half of all women my age are named Heather. It's very vexing. When I was in elementary school, etc., I always had to go by Heather B. (hence my former moniker, heatherbee).

There's kind of a new guy in my life. I can't tell if he just wants to be friends or not. I kind of expected him to make a move when I was over at his house yesterday for like four and a half hours. He didn't, but he started texting me again really soon after I left and he invited me to a bonfire at his house tonight.

It's been suggested that maybe he's being a gentleman? Which doesn't go with his reputation but then again, that's what I've heard from mutual friends of ours from high school, and if everyone formed their opinions of me on the word of my high school classmates where would I be?

Whatever it is, I hope it becomes clear soon. The waiting to find out is driving me nuts, because he's crazy hot and smart -- he kind of looks like Justin Timberlake and he's taking his exam to be an actuary tomorrow.

SERIOUSLY WHAT IS GOING ON. I've hung out with this guy three times this week. Yesterday we were together for like eleven hours. I went over to his house to watch a movie and before I knew it I was being invited out to dinner with his family. I went to his grandmother's house, for christ's sakes. Then when we got back to his house he had decided he wanted to see "Cowboys & Aliens" at midnight after we overheard people talking about it at another table, so we killed time watching "Game of Thrones" in his room until then.

He kept tickling me and poking me all night, too, half of which was on his bed while we watched GoT, but I paid for my own movie ticket and our goodnight was tepid at best. Still nothing definitively romantic in sight. WHAT IS THIS YOU GUYS.

I haven't felt this upest over a guy in god knows how long. All week after work I've been drinking. Last night for dinner I had a cheesecake and 2 bottles of wine for dinner. Everytime I saw him at work I had to run to the bathroom to cry. I'm fucking pathetic.

*E-hugs* Sad I hate that broken-hearted feeling.

I don't know. Just jump him next time you're together, if that's what you want to do. Don't wait around to figure out what he's up to.

Damn it. That did not go well. I ended up forcing the issue a little because another guy asked me out for drinks tomorrow night, and it doesn't seem like he's into it. So now hanging out's gonna be super weird. If we do at all. FUCK.

My fiance and I decided on a wedding venue and a date, next August 4th at a golf course country club. It's not going to be a big wedding, but it's a bit stressful already. Her sister declined being in the wedding party (she's been jealous since we got engaged), and my brother doesn't want to be my best man because of his problems with public speaking.

I understand his problems with being the best man, and I'll have a friend be it, but he's saying he doesn't even want to be a groomsman. Ugh. I'm sure he will agree to it eventually, but it was not expected.

I kind of wish Holly would want to elope, but she wants a true wedding, so I'm cool with it.

I've already got pre-wedding jitters. Not because of who I am marrying, I love her more and more each day, but due to all of these preparations.

haha, I was really hoping to not be my usual d-bag self with a wordy first reply - but, alas

By small wedding are you thinking of around 100 or so? I think that's a good number because it is enough to feel like a real celebration but still very manageable. It can be really hard to trim the guest list though.

I kind of guessing that the ceremony and reception will be at the same place? That is very, very good in that people don't have to get in their cars and drive for the party to start. (pics of the country club?)

As far as all the hassles and issues, just try to look at it as something awesome that you can't really control but can thoroughly enjoy. Obviously, making Holly (very sweet name) happy will make you happy - so there you go. I'm guessing you will have a crazy ass rocking band.

Too bad about sis-in-law - hope that can smooth over. My mother/sister and wife went at it over the shade of a bridesmaid dress. That was the only messed up thing about the whole deal for me.

We're thinking about 70 people. If we go over that, the family flood gates open and it hits 200 very fast.

Ceremony and reception will both be in the same place. We haven't decided band or dj yet.

I'm trying to keep all of the hassles in perspective, I know in the end that I'm going to see Holly looking happier than ever.

I had a date tonight. He did all the right things. I met him a week and a half ago at a bar through a mutual friend. Two days later he called to ask me out. When I said yes he proposed dinner, asking if I liked Italian food, and when I said yes to that he chose a restaurant. He picked me up at my house, paid for dinner, took me for drinks, paid for those, then we went back to his house and watched "Kick-Ass," which I picked as a possibility and we both wanted to see. Then he kissed me, took me home, kissed me again, and asked me to go to a Halloween party on Saturday (which I probably would have been going to anyway, because my friend Kate has gone out a few times with the friend of his that's throwing the party) as his date.

And yet I'm still kind of ambivalent.

I had a date on Subday. We went for coffee. 10 minutes after leaving, he texts me saying he cant wait to see me again. He works days (9-5) and Im on afternoons for the next two weeks (230-11), and am going up North this weekend. So he proposed a lunch date. This date is today. In an hour. I'm still in bed. I normally go to bed at like 4am, and wake up around 12:30 when I'm on afternoons. I better go make myself not look like a zombie (I'm also cutting out coffee..so i look extra tired)

I feel kinda meh about him. I'll give it another go..

Date two happened. I still don't know. I'll give it another go. Sigh.

Well I hung out with my friend Kate last night and found out she's feeling kind of the same way about the guy's friend she's been seeing, which means I probably won't go to this Halloween party with the guy since I don't want to go without her...so it's not boding well.

Plus according to her, a friend of hers that I actually am kind of into likes me back. I feel a much better connection with him but was getting mixed signals, but if there's a possibility there then I don't want to string some other guy along just because he's there and isn't doing anything wrong, you know?

I'd like your opinions on this.

Ok so, no disrespect to anyone who is a part of and/or enjoys these types of relationships but, does anyone find it strange, annoying, or even pathetic when a couple, particularly a couple that has lived together for a considerable amount of time, has the type of relationship that's very clingy and co-dependent? To be specific, let's say there is a couple that lives together and essentially sees each other everyday. One of them goes and hangs out with friends and the other will text/call them and say "when are you coming home?? I miss you soooo much". Or they will frequently send each other sappy text messages and what not. How is that you MISS someone that you see everyday after only 5 or 6 hours. I moved back in with my mom and I see her everyday, and when she goes to work for 8 hours, I don't miss her at all. But if I went away for a month then yes I would. Now, I can see why this would be typical with couples who have been together briefly, but after I dunno, 7 years, that type of interaction just seems lame to me and the people seem to be insecure and co-dependent. I do understand every now and then and I do understand that couples are affectionate, I mean that's a given. I'm talking about like daily and constantly.

I bring this us because I have a friend who has a girlfriend and they have lived together for a 7 years and the things I hear them say to each other on the phone when I'm hanging out with my friend...I dunno it just seems so pathetic to me. I don't mean to judge but my friend will often ask me what I think about her and their relationship and I always lie and say I'm happy for them but really what I want to say is "I think she's a clingy, insecure pest and I think you're even more pathetic for playing into it." Again, I know I'm coming off judgmental but if I'm asked a question, I feel I should be able to tell the truth. So I just wanted to know if I'm just bitter and cynical or if my friend and his mate are just lame. What do you think?

Btw, if you think I'm being bitter, I would argue with you that if any of my girlfriends acted like that, they'd be disposed of quickly because personally, clingy girlfriends are worse than cheating ones.

For swearing off sexual partners, I have quite the love triangle happening at the moment. Actually, it's more of a pentagon. Awful and awkward and I want no part in it.
