All this talk about how people feel about UTB just reminds me how fuckin awesome the show I caught on that tour was. I don't care what anyone says (Jenny and Blake included), those tunes kicked some serious ass live.

Man, it's a shame I never saw them live except as an opening act. D:

THANK YOU. But you know what's funny? My mind is still reading "of" when I first see it. Sad

I think I went to about 4 shows during the UTB era and the more I think about it, the more I realize how true this is. I'm not a big fan of the record overall, but live was a lot different. Bow ties, metallic gold outfits, Jenny in a leotard every. single. show. Yeah, it was fun.

The original fanbase has to be very enthusiastic to spread the word, so each album gets bigger. After More Adventurous, I would preach the gospel of RK. I converted several people into huge fans, who in turn converted more. But I was ashamed of UTB. Not that it was bad, but it wasn't something I would vouch for with the very intense music fans and many musicians that I know. In fact, I apologized for it.

I agree one hundred percent. I used to be so excited to push RK on anyone and everyone, and I anticipated UTB so much that when I listened to it, it almost seemed like a sick joke. I still was in the band's corner, but I wasn't enthusiastic about pushing the album. I actually had to tell people to listen to the other ones first.

It just sucks. I did like Rabbit Fur Coat OK, but never was huge on Acid Tongue. I guess I was becoming less forgiving as a listener that these weren't projects that were a slight diversion from great RK projects, but instead they were the best I could hope for.

And Blake's Elected albums? The vocals are just not there. He can write and play amazing stuff, but he needs a singer.

I guess to me, those two are RK, just like Morrissey and Marr were the Smiths. I hope they can find a way to work things out to the point they can write and record again.
