The cover of Wrecking Ball reminded me of how clear and cutting Jenny's voice is. I'd love to see her do something big next time. Perhaps Bruce Springsteen or Linda Ronstadt style and really belt it out. _________________ There is nothing stopping you, there is nothing stopping me. So let that beat control your body baby! |

I would like to see Jenny take a (very short) break, see the light, and reunite Rilo Kiley.
BUT if that doesn't happen (Which I KNOW is unlikely... when has she ever taken a break?)... I'd love to hear a solo record chock full of songs like "Can't Outrun Em". |

Maybe she should get that Blake guy to produce her solo album... Probably not gonna happen.
How about a Postal Service reunion? _________________ Visit me at The Walrus Speaks. |

I'd like to see her do anything without Rice and anything better produced than I'm Having Fun Now. Even the songs that I like on that record are ruined by the fact that it sounds like she's singing out of a tin can. _________________ happiness is not a fish that you can catch. |

I really hope she does not make another Jenny and Johnny record and this may be selfish of me but I hope the project fails so that no record company will fund it. Its not the music, its him. I really do not like his voice and this is not coming from a "wahhh I want Blake back" place. I genuinely don't like it. The whole couple making music thing is just a little too retarded for me to get behind. I hope she (musically) throws him away all together but I wouldn't mind more behind the scenes J. Rice.
Btw, I don't know if this has been brought up but does anyone else take "I'm Having Fun Now" as an implication that she wasn't having fun in Rilo Kiley. I don't frequent this board as much as I used to so I may have missed that discussion. _________________ Beauty fades. Dumb is forever. |

As per my comment on the Latitude thread, yes and it's a good thing. Rilo had jumped the shark. The Jenny and Johnny record has grown on me and they played a great set. But i do agree a bit on musical partnerships, when I first listened to the album, it occurred to me that the best ones thrive on tension which isn't in evidence in J&J (again a good thing in the wider context) - so probably is best if it's an occasional thing. They said they'd be taking a long break so no doubt they'll be off to make different records/hang out/have kids, whatever. _________________ Soupy twist!

Ehhhh I disagree on the "jump the shark" comment. I think, regardless of how you felt about the Under The Blacklight, in my opinion its undeniable that that was Rilo Kiley's perfect launch pad into bigger things. As far as exposure, The Moneymaker was in a national Carl's Jr commercial, Silver Lining was played all over the place (all over the place on the scope of non-mainstream bands) and they were finally on a major label. As far as the music, I don't feel they declined in quality, they just changed their overall tone and it rubbed many fans the wrong way. I really believe their 5th album could've/could be their magnum opus to the mainstream press (to fans it will probably always be Execution.) I dunno, I feel like they were still just getting started even though they've been together so long. None of their albums became uninspired or repetitive (including UTB IMO) which tends to happen with bands who've jumped the shark. They were still oozing with creativity or else they would've made MA Part 2. But again, these are all my opinions. _________________ Beauty fades. Dumb is forever. |

Sorry, I shouldn't have posted. Was still a little drunk. I just can't separate how she treated me tonight from the music, and it makes me physically ill to look at this page. |

Very poorly and last night at The Satellite. I was there, but you'd have to ask her for the details since I was by the bar when it happened. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Take this with a grain of salt because I heard all of this after-the-fact.
Basically, Allie walked over to Jenny between performers to ask her if she could finish the tattoo she's been working on. So far, she's gotten Jason, Pierre, and Blake to sign it. All she needed is Jenny's part to it, which consists of the word "But" (as in "But now I'm gold).
The first thing, I guess, Jenny said when she saw her was something along the lines of "What are you doing here? You're from Iowa." It came off sounding like she shouldn't have been there supporting Mike and Pierre. Allie replied that she flew in Sunday to see The Elected in San Diego and decided to stay a few extra days to see Mike and Pierre play last night. Then when Allie asked her to sign off on the tattoo, Jenny said, yeah, she'd heard about it, but she wasn't going to sign it. Then I think Allie explained that it wasn't going to take very long, that it was only a word. Jenny again said, "No, but thank you for asking." However, she continued with, "Actually, no, thank you for making me feel awkward."
And I think that's where Allie, in tears, went to the bathroom with Porter. The rest of the night she was upset about it and consulted with almost everyone there about what she had done wrong or how she could have acted appropriately. Everyone agreed that perhaps Jenny was tired from having just flown in the night before, that she was maybe a little short, that it wasn't anything personal against her. But it still stung.
Jenny just could have handled it better... or at least more tactfully, instead of being short. Also, I think it had more to do with the fact with how much Allie had spent following Jenny around on tour, including flying out to different cities, and to have Jenny be so abrupt with her in person and treat this tattoo project of hers as being "weird" or "strange". Perhaps if she'd given a reason, said that she was uncomfortable signing her arm or that it was a weird request, it might have gone over a little more smoothly.
But, again, that's just my take on the events. I'm sure there's a lot I left out and may have interpreted incorrectly. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

| You know what, at the risk of sounding like a jerk myself, I think Jenny's response was perfectly reasonable. It doesn't even sound like she was particularly rude. How many people have come on here after shows, telling told stories about Jenny refusing to take pictures with them or sign autographs? Allie's gotten postcards, pictures, songs dedicated to her, etc. She's gotten a lot of Jenny's attention, and she hasn't been on the receiving end of this type of refusal before, so I can understand that it stung. And maybe the fact that she shows up everywhere makes it more understandable rather than less. So, yeah, maybe I'm a jerk, but...suck it up, buttercup. |

to me, it sounds kind of rude. if i had an uber fan dropping mad cash on my shows, merch, flying from place to place to support not just me but my former bandmates and friends, etc, i'd probably go a little out of my way to be nice. sure, she doesn't owe her anything and she's not obligated to compose a sonnet for her or send postcards or write the word 'but' on her arm but i also don't see any need for her to be short about it. |

Plus, Allie waited until Jenny didn't seem busy. It was between performers and Jenny wasn't in the middle of a conversation. Also, she wasn't even going to approach Jenny until Pierre said to go ahead and ask her then.
I just don't know how she could have been more thoughtful and sensitive to the fact that Jenny was there to relax and not be bothered 24/7, and still get to ask for the favor. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Sorry, thought it was a fitting lyric. I guess I find "What are you doing here? You're from Iowa." a pretty uncalled-for thing to say, even if she was thinking it. And even the guys all assured her Jenny would do it since she had all of them already. _________________ I am flawed if I'm not free |

At least it reads "now I'm gold". That still sounds complete. Were for some other word choices by the members of the band it could have read "But now I'm" and Jenny could have been boycotting "gold".
Everyone kept telling her it's good as it is and she doesn't need Jenny's word, which is kind of true. It's still a phrase most RK fans would recognize as is. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."
