I saw Conor Oberst open for The Felice Brothers at The Echo last night. It was pretty epic. Morgan, Runion, Farmer Dave, and Jenny Reyes were all in attendance. I was tempted to ask Farmer Dave who exactly threw their shirt into the fire, but I chickened out.
Tonight I will be seeing Cold Cave and Spoon at the Palladium. And of course Jenny and Johnny and Belle and Sebastian at the Palladium on Sunday and J&J at the Troubadour on Tuesday. And I will probably attend the Janelle Monae/Of Montreal show at the Palladium at the end of the month. Its a big month for the Palladium. _________________ I'll sink this ship if I want.

Jenny and Johnny just got announced for a festival Feb next year, so happy that Jenny is coming back for her 2nd time in two years!! I hope they do their own headline show on a proper stage this time. And I might actually make a better effort of introducing myself this time. _________________ Last.FM / Tumblr |

| Social Distortion tonight in Denver! Gonna head down early and pregame at a bar a couple doors down from the venue so I'll be nice and primed for some balls to the walls rock n roll. Lucero is opening, so that should be pretty sweet too. |

I'm sure it would be, have you heard Machine Gun Blues yet?
Classic Social D, 2nd March is my day I finally get to see them.
It would be nice if Lucero came out next year too... and Drive-By Truckers. _________________ Last.FM / Tumblr |

Damn that was a fun show. Swillin bourbon and beer and rockin out to som Social D...good times. They played Machine Gun Blues at the show, and it was definitely a heater. Fits right in well with the rest of their tunes.
Lucero was great. Really enjoyed their opening set. They're a great choice as an opener. They're completely a different vibe than Social D, but the two work so well together.
Good luck holding out until March. I bough my Social D tickets about 4 months in advance and it was a brutal wait. I felt like a little kid crossing out the days on the calendar until Christmas. |

Damn, no one had any shows to be excited about between November and now? And I only had to go a couple threads down to find a two month old thread....sigh.....
Anyway, bought my ticket just now for Who's Bad. They are THE Michael Jackson/Jackson 5 cover band. Really excited to see them Thursday. Caught them last year here in town and they blew the damn doors off the place. Haven't gotten down at that like a show in a long time. Worth the price of admission alone just to get down to the I Want You Back/ABC Jackson 5 medley.
Seriously, check these guys out if they come anywhere near you. |

I've got tickets for the Elephant 6 reunion, with members of Neutral Milk Hotel, Olivia Tremor Control and Elf Power.
I have no idea whether Jeff Mangum will be there, but they will at least play some NMH songs. _________________ Under cherry flowers none are strangers |

I saw Wolf Parade again in November. Awesome, as usual, and I had my first "conversation" with Spencer, aka my biggest musical crush for 5+ years. It consisted of about 5 words.
I don't have the money for many shows so I just have a handful I'm either definitely going to or contemplating(*)
02/11 Robyn, Diamond Rings, Natalia Kills
02/09 Best Coast, Wavves, No Joy*
03/24 Warpaint*
03/26 Rural Alberta Advantage*
04/15 Zola Jesus*
04/25 Arcade Fire, the National (SO EXCITED! I'm not into festivals, so I haven't seen AF since their Neon Bible tour, and the National's always a great time.) |

Some Coachella bands that are coming through SF.
Radio Dept - who I never heard of but play this really thick soulful slow stuff. Normally I would avoid, but the songs on youtube get inside my head.
And, probably the complete opposite, Two Door Cinema Club, which is super poppy - high energy British stuff. _________________ Under cherry flowers none are strangers |

I'm very excited about my next concert. I'm seeing Grace Potter & The Nocturnals on February 11th (also known as my birthday). In all the years I've been going to shows, I've never had a show fall on my birthday that I actually wanted to see (this year I had three to choose from, opting against the Radiators and Furthur). The show is just about sold out, at a great little venue in Denver, and Grace is pretty much blowing the hell up right now in the mainstream.
My birthday weekend will be Friday: Grace Potter> Saturday: day of recovery> all day Sunday skiing up in Breckenridge. There will be large quantities of bourbon consumed throughout. |

| My next show is gonna be a good one. I'm seeing Ice Cube Saturday night here in Boulder at a sweet little venue (The Boulder Theater, classy old theater from the 1920's that now has an awesome under the radar bar connected to it). The weather is also lining up for a killer powder day on the slopes Saturday morning, so my plan is to tear up the mountains by day, then head back to town for a little west coast gangsta rap for the nightcap. |

So in the past few weeks I have seen the following:
Social D x 3, The Gaslight Anthem x 3, The Bronx x 2, Fucked Up, Slayer, Millencolin, Pennywise, Rob Zombie... and of course The Hold Steady! last Friday night. THS TGA and SxDx being my top 3. After seeing Gaslight 3 times, I can say they are def. my no.1 band these days (that is still current of course). the Social D shows were great, the 3rd one they opened with "The Creeps"! I was surprised they didn't perform anything from Sex, Love. _________________ Last.FM / Tumblr |

That sounds pretty damn fun. The Creeps is such a great song. I can't wait to see Social D again. |

Ahh one of my top shows was The Hold Steady. Have a blast! Believe it or not, because of my @#($&@(#$ing awesome English teacher, they played at my high school I think it was my sophomore year, as did The Drive By Truckers, Exene Cervenka, Cary Hudson, and some local bands. I think Ha Ha Tonka stopped by too when they were Amsterband, but I may be wrong. I was freaking spoiled in high school. That's when all the good shows came to town too. Thank god my parents let me go to bars.
Anyway back on topic. My town has been seriously lacking lately in my opinion. Mostly because I'm not into all this indie ish stuff the college radio gets to come... the only one of those events I went to was Wakey!Wakey! but I didn't stay for them. I went to see the opener, Jenny Owens Young.
I DID see Ryan Bingham a few weeks ago, which was fantastic. They have a no taping policy though. Boo. I'm really into twangy music now as I'm getting older (damn 20 is friggin old y'all) so I don't know if anyone else here is a fan... but after I saw him on Austin City Limits I bought all his CDs. and by bought I mean..
The only other shows I"m excited for are the New Pornographers who I've never seen, and Neko will be with them! The last time Neko Case was here was when I was 16 (I'm 20 now) and she promised to my face she'd come back, but something must have happened and shit must have gone down because I've talked to some people here who are.. well in charge of getting shows here and they were weird about it and were all "yeah she won't be back for a looonng time" But I guess I'll settle for her with the New Pornographers . I wonder what their taping policy is.
Alsooo Ha Ha Tonka is coming to the juke joint-ish bar (as in a small awesome bar) in town so that'll be a nice intimate show. I've seen them a lot oover the years, including opening for the Avett Brothers on 9th St outside because they are from a few hours down from here. I like them a lot. I am considering asking if I can open for them, but I'd have to have a freaking band for that and I'm really frustrated with getting a band together at this point. damn college kids. But Ha Ha Tonka are signed to Bloodshot records, and it's my dream to be signed to that label!
Oh and I was going to see the Civil Wars in St. Louis, at an intimate venue which would be AMAZING... but it's sold out
Hmm and I may go see Someone Still Loves you Boris Yeltsin (another MO band) at the small juke joiintish bar aka Mojo's, but I haven't decided yet.
Well after that long ramble, I'm done. _________________ http://www.mollytrull.com |

i guess i forgot to post when it was still "upcoming" but i saw the raveonettes last night. i think they were better when i saw them a few years ago, but it was still fun! they also did an in-store performance at a local record store (sonic boom, for anybody who's from toronto and/or is a scott pilgrim fan), so i got to meet them! lovely people and a great band. _________________ music | last.fm | twitter |

Wini, what do you think of Raven in the Grave? I was super disappointed my first time through, especially after In and Out of Control, which I pretty much love start to finish. It's growing on me a little the second time through but it's still too slow and... dreary, I guess? I kinda wanted to go see them Wednesday (and still could as it's not sold out, but I'm in a super depressed funk right now. An "I'm [almost] 25 and unemployed. What do I REALLY want to do with my life?" breakdown...) but thought it might translate into a boring show.
Ugh, another ramble. |

i'm the same as you - raven in the grave was REALLY underwhelming and i still don't love it or anything. it's definitely slow and kind of boring, as an album, especially in comparison to their previous releases. but if you've seen the raveonettes before, you'll know they put on a good show... even the new songs were pretty good live. if you're strapped for cash, i wouldn't make it a must-see show... they tour a lot, so i'm sure they'll be in chicago again in the future. hugs to you, girl. _________________ music | last.fm | twitter |

I saw Tim Barry last week, great folk punk.
Later tonight I'll see Frank Turner with local gal Jen Buxton (listen to 2nd song here http://poisoncityrecords.com/, she's a big Rilo fan.
In the coming weeks I will be seeing:
The Aggrolites, Eli 'Paperboy Reed', Tim Robbins & The Rogues Gallery Band... and Against Me! in May. _________________ Last.FM / Tumblr |

Going to see Shilpa Ray tonight. I'm breaking one of my hard and fast rules to not go to a show solely for the opener, but who knows the next time she'll be in my neck of the woods, so I figured I had to go. Colorado has been on a steady diet of the same ole stuff so it's nice to break the mold a bit. Man Man are the headliners, but I dunno how much of their set I'll actually stick around for.
Then in about a month, Widespread Panic at Red Rocks, with a late night show sprinkled in of the Motet and others covering Talking Heads. |
