| I met Jenny and told her she was the greatest songwriter of the decade. If I met Peyton Manning I would tell him, “You’re the best goddamn quarterback I ever saw!” It would help if I had a Wilford Brimley mustache when I said it. |

I'm still beaming from the Eagles comeback against the Giants yesterday.
Most hated rival, in their house, division title at stake.....epic victory that I will never forget. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Super Bowl Sunday coming up....Packers-Steelers.
Who are you all rooting for? What are your plans?
As an NFC guy, and someone tired of the Steelers always winning trophies, I'm definitely rooting for the Pack.
I don't really have any plans set in stone, but I won't be going to a big party or anything. I've always watched it with my brother no matter the circumstance, so that will happen again most likely. My father's a Steelers fan, so when they're in it, we usually get together with him.
Starting to think about the most important part....the food!!! _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

To be honest, I'm a typical "doesn't follow football" girl, but I'm rooting for the Packers mostly because I graduated high school with the kicker...have to support my hometown!! _________________ + veronica

That's cool that you graduated high school with him.
Even though you don't typically follow football, do you usually watch the Super Bowl? Almost all of the women I've known throughout my life that aren't into football watch it for whatever reason...the party, the American tradition, commercials, etc... _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Weirdly, when I was a kid, I did for sure. Nowadays...not so much. I might a little, but I typically don't sit down and watch the whole thing anymore. I got invited to a Super Bowl party this year, though (haha I don't blame people for never inviting me before) and if I don't have to work, I'll go. _________________ + veronica

I've been to a couple of Super Bowl parties in the past, but I couldn't stand them because people who didn't truly like football were just drinking and talking over the game instead of paying attention to what was happening on the field. Now I just enjoy watching the game with a few people that are real fans of the sport.
No offense, but you wouldn't be invited to my place for a Super Bowl party haha! _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

I totally understand! It really depends on what my friends (aka the girls at the party) will be doing. If they're mostly watching, I will too, and if I get into it, then great! If not, I have no shame in going home early, haha. _________________ + veronica

I don't really have a dog in the fight, but as a Niners fan I still have a lot of residual hate for the Packers going back to the days when the Packers/Niners was an annual playoff matchup. So, I'd rather see the Steelers win, and the objective sports fan in me thinks Pitt will crush the Packers (particularly if Polamalu is healthy). They're better coached, clutch, and that defense is just plain fierce. A lot of GB's success late in the season was predicated on their run game getting in going, and you just don't run on the Steelers. Rodgers is going to get sacked like crazy.
As for food, I usually pick up some wings, maybe some guacamole and salsa, and some bourbon.
I also agree about some Super Bowl parties sucking if they're filled with passive football "fans". Sometimes it's cool to see those people get hoooked on football when a great game transpires though (like the Pitt/Zona game that went down to the wire). |

I think the best Superbowl party I'd ever heard about was my former boss'. Every year he said he'd order five hundred wings and fifty large pizzas. I don't know how many people were invited each year, but it was just the kind of thing where friends could bring their friends and so on.
Plus, there was more than enough beer and spirits that even the non-football fans got into the game. LOL _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

I GET TO WATCH THE SUPER BOWL. I convinced the director of my show, a.k.a. my professor and the chair of our theatre department, to cancel rehearsal on Sunday for the game. I am, as they say, made of win right now.
Also I got this article from my sister, which I just love: http://sports.espn.go.com/espn/news/story?id=6079827 _________________ Change has a way of just walking up and punching me in the face.

I can see that happening, GB will basically be Rodgers and Pitt will be gunning for him, but I also think GB's defense is fantastic as well and could give the Steelers fits. I wouldn't be surprised at either team winning. I'm really looking forward to this one. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Yeah, I do have to admit that GB has an excellent defense. Clay Matthews is incredible. His younger brother, Casey, has been terrorizing the Pac 10 while playing for the Oregon Ducks. The Steelers line is prone to giving up some sacks, so this may not be a good game to be a QB. I'm eager to see this game too. |

Just want a close game (I realize now how much people must have hated the 49ers for when they blew teams out in a SB - although the two Cincy games were close)
I will be with my three oldest friends and drinking some wine - haha, that's what I do now to keep the intake low. _________________ Under cherry flowers none are strangers |

In non-Super Bowl news, my Eagles have named their offensive line coach as their new defensive coordinator.
Let me repeat so it sinks in a bit...they have named their OFFENSIVE LINE COACH as their new DEFENSIVE COORDINATOR.
WTF?? I've never heard of such a strange move. I'm stunned. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

This is always my favorite NFL weekend of the year. I'm rooting for the 49ers, Broncos, Texans, and Packers.
I'm having an NFL party today. I'm sure tomorrow I'll post in the hangover thread. _________________ "When God gave us mirrors....he had no idea...."

Considering how that "Dream Team' defense performed.
Woooo for yesterday's game. The Niners were hitting so hard in the first half - so much like the way the '81 team played with Ronnie Lott.
It was almost a win-win for me in that I wasn't even going to be upset if they lost because you have to give Brees and the Saints their due.
So great to see Alex Smith and Vernon Davis come through in a big game.
Fucking Brady and Pats sure look scary - and we'll see how the Packers play tonight against upset oriented Giants. The NFC games seem a lot more interesting. |

| That Niner game last night was one of the most heartbreaking sporting events I have ever watched. That fumble in OT was pretty much a kick straight to the nuts. I enjoy being a devoted sports fan, but sometimes I envy those people that can just shrug their shoulders and move on after a big loss. I mean, I can't even turn on ESPN today. |

I don't know--I'd rather be heartbroken every now and again if it means having that indescribable sense of joy when your team wins a championship. Bandwagoners just don't understand what that championship means to real fans because they've never felt the "kick to the nuts" that losing a big game causes. _________________ "Right is right even if no one does it, and wrong is wrong even if everyone does it."

Oh fuck, and the two missed interceptions when Niners' DBs collided with each other.
On the fumbles, it's worth noting that the experienced Ted Ginn would would have been taking the punts if not injured.
Then the none fumble call when the Giants lost one.
Except for the two Vernon Davis plays, though, our passing game was pretty ridiculous. I don't know why we totally gave up the run on the last few possessions. Gore was churning and the misdirection plays to Hunter were working big time.
I feared Manning because he is so clutch. The Niners pass rush was huge in throwing him off. I wish they would have blitzed more because they got instant pressure when they did.
The Giants clearly had a better passing game. I was wondering who Chuck was rooting for - Rep the NFC East, or hate on the Giants for Philly rivalry. |
