i feel like i'm getting fat and lazy since the weather is getting colder. all summer i was going on bike rides, walks, and hikes, and now i sit around doing jack shit.
Also, a couple years ago I seriously lost 35 pounds in like 3 months just from playing DDR (you know, the dancing video game?). And that game is fun as hell. I really need to start playing it again, i'm just too lazy. I need to stop being lazy!
also, I agree with y'all about the lean cuisine's. I bring them to work all the time and they are great. _________________ happiness is not a fish that you can catch. |

TMI, Mojo, but I agree with Beth about the PetMeds commercial. Her eyes practically glow red. I've never seen the Simpsons episode, though. Bea Arthur has always given me a butch vibe, too. I've always been active...all my life I've played soccer, and skied/snowboarded, and some variation of running/other sports has always been in there as well. As a kid I was a little chubby, and then I had some eating/exercise issues my freshman year in high school...I got down to a pretty low weight and it wasn't good at all. But I bounced back and stayed active but got much healthier. In college I did lots of intermural soccer but didn't run as much, and getting to the gym was always 2nd to getting more sleep, playing on the internet, or making trips to go see concerts. Oh, and schoolwork. But yea, I lost a little of that "daily routine" aspect through college. Then after I graduated in May '06, I moved back to New England, around Boston, but I was working 2 jobs, so I got even more out of the routine. No more soccer, no running, no gym.
However, I started playing soccer again this past spring, which was the first step. Then, around the beginning of September, I just decided that I needed to get back into a routine (instead of going home and sitting on my couch/on my laptop all day). So I started coming to the gym after work on all 3 days of the week that I work early (6am to 1:30pm). I run on the treadmill for half an hour and then lift weights for a couple different muscle groups on each day (biceps/triceps; legs/butt; back/shoulders). Also, I started trying to eat a lot better; usually I bring healthy food to work. This consists of some combination of the following foods: 4 hardboiled eggs (whites only), at least one piece of fruit (usually if I bring an apple I eat it with peanut butter), yogurt, cottage cheese with chives, and some kind of cut up fresh veggies (carrots, peppers, cucumbers). I also try to bring some lunch food like a small serving of pasta or a protein like chicken.
Now, around 4 weeks later, I've probably lost about 6 pounds...I was around 140 and now I'm down to 134ish. I'm 5'4", and I'd like to be in the high 120's, ideally. But I can already see the effects of the weight loss...my pants fit looser around the waist and thighs (although my butt is still the same size...dammit). I'm quite the "bottom heavy" body type, so I'm always going to have legs and an ass, but I've just got to accept that, I think. I'm happy with how the routine is going and am definitely going to stick with it. But I agree with everyone who's said you can't deprive yourself too heartily...if I have a couple Oreo's or a little bit of ice cream, I'm not going to derail. The most important thing for me is not to miss a day of exercise, cause missing one is likely to derail me. So just stick with it, people! _________________ I'm Taylor.

I'm not the athletic type-never really was. However, I do like to walk-I walk a lot at work and I park further away so I can walk or I walk instead of drive.
Besides that-I don't eat meat or dairy for that matter. Now-I'm not sure how will-powered you are with your eating habits but I do know that cutting out some meat can help you eat healthier. I also do not eat junk food or soda-but for the most part that's because I don't want to visit the dentist or get cavities. A lot of candy contains dairy or gelatin as well...
My Advice:
-Drink more water
-Stay away from sugary or artificial foods and drinks
-Try to go for more fresh foods instead of packaged and processed foods(Make homemade meals basically)
-Walk more
-Eat healthier and avoid unnecessary snacking |

| Couch-to-5K got me excited about exercising. It's basically a beginner's running regimen, and gets you running 3 miles (or 30 minutes) within about two and a half months. It's structured so that you don't overdo it and end up miserable, but it's still enough of a challenge. I didn't lose much weight at all, but I could tell that I was much fitter-- my calves didn't hurt after walking up four flights of stairs, etc. However, I got a nasty sinus thing at the end of the summer, and I still feel congested a lot of the time (allergies? I dunno) and I can't run outside much anymore without my nose going crazy on me. I miss it, and now it's fall again. I need to figure something out. |
I love Robert. Couch to 5K was really good for me. The music wasn't terribel either. It's a podcast too which is really nice, too. I wish I had stuck with it, I was doing really good, but then I became so busy at night that I didn't have time to go running. I want to get back into it definitely. My problem is drinking. I want to try to cut out beer even though I absolutely love it. Maybe just stick to vodka if I want to drink. Cutting out beer and exercising more will totally help. _________________ "Made out with a hot dog? That was one time!" |

In my case, I'm tired of being big and finally decided to do something about it. Last week I joined Weight Watchers. So far: Week one, 12 pounds lost!

That's great Terrance! I was thinking of trying Weight Watchers too, but I am worried that I'm setting myself up for failure because the holidays are right around the corner and I cannot help myself from all the cookies and sweets. But I definitely want to start it right after the holidays. Are you finding WW easy to follow? |

Yeah, I'm doing better than I thought I would because I REALLY love to eat. I just got to a certain point where I was tired of being this way. It took me 4 months to finally join. Yeah, right before the Holiday's is going to be tough, but I'm VERY determined this time. (I did this 10 years ago when I was much smaller then I am now).
For the record: I'm 6' 3" and started at 390lbs! 378 sounds better after one week.
Just try not to set your goals too high right away. Week one, we concentrate on cutting back on portions and eating veggies and fruits between meals. Week two helps us for when we dine out. I think week three is when we start adding exercise to the routine.
I hope you do decide to start on WW. I already have more energy and don't feel as crappy when I wake up in the morning!

Weirdly, I know a lot of people who are that nice. But it is odd and unnatural.
To bring myself back on topic, all of my running has been paying off, because I've been able to cut almost a minute off of my time. That might not sound like much, but I've estimated the distance that I run at about 4/10 of a mile.
In short, this puts me on pace to run a half mile in three minutes and a mile in six. _________________ My username is apexsensation. But you can call me Jason if you'd like.

I can tell you all one thing -- misery is the best diet ever.
I don't know how much weight I lost, but I bought a size four dress yesterday, and that hasn't happened since about junior year. _________________ Change has a way of just walking up and punching me in the face.

I've been monitoring my food intake (meaning I don't diet but I've cut back on portions/snacking and tried to eat more protein since I'm a veggie and more fruits and vegetables) and exercizing fairly frequently for about the past six months. I think it's been paying off so far, I don't weigh myself, but I look thinner and I now wear a size smaller in women's shirts. I want to get an extra push to lose some more weight now, and working out in the gym in my building has been helping a lot. |

Oh, yeah, I definitely had a Grief Diet at the end of last year.
Walking all around a big college campus gets you a little exercise. But then I come back to my dorm and eat Chips Ahoy and drink lots of milk. So, so good...but so wrong. _________________ What a fun, sexy time for you! |

I actually went and worked out today for the first time in like four years because I'm such a big fan of this whole losing weight thing I've been doing. And usually I hate working out, but this felt strangely good. I think I'll go again tomorrow. _________________ Change has a way of just walking up and punching me in the face.

Exercise releases endorphins(sp?) and does alot of really positive things for your body aside from just general weight related health. That's why alot of non prescriptions treatments for depression really stress activity and such. Definitely helps with my insomnia. _________________ the music that I want

Between the elliptical and the treadmill, I just did like four or five miles.
This is awesome. I can't believe I used to hate working out so much. Maybe I just needed to be in a place in my life where I desperately need to take control over...something. _________________ Change has a way of just walking up and punching me in the face.

Good to hear you're excercising and enjoying it. My favorite workout is swimming laps and I love just getting hypnotized and zoning out. Everything but moving through the water just disappears. Hopefully, you'll stick with it. If you add some strength training, it'll help prevent injuries and improve your dancing. _________________ All I need are some tasty waves, cool buzz and I'm fine. |
